An airliner and supersonic fighter jet zoomed past the lower Manhattan skyline in a flash just as the work day was beginning Monday. Within minutes, startled financial workers streamed out of their offices, fearing a nightmarish replay of Sept. 11.
For a half-hour, the Boeing 747 and F-16 jet circled the Statue of Liberty and the lower Manhattan skyline near the World Trade Center site. Offices evacuated. Dispatchers were inundated with calls. Witnesses thought the planes were flying dangerously low.
But the flyover was nothing but a photo op, apparently one of a series of flights to get pictures of the plane in front of national landmarks.
It was carried out by the Defense Department with little warning, infuriating New York officials and putting the White House on the defense. Even Mayor Michael Bloomberg didn't know about it, and he later called it "insensitive" to fly so near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The director of the White House military office, Louis Caldera, took the blame a few hours later. One of the planes was a 747 that is called Air Force One when used by the president.
"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," Caldera said. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."
When told of the flight, President Barack Obama was furious, a White House official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

pardon me while i rant for a second.... what in the hell were they thinking? has that city not suffered enough from the terrorists outside of our government without suffering the terrorists inside the government? are they that stupid, self absorbed, incompetent and ignorant that they could possibly have thought “oh hey here’s a great idea”? do they think the 9/11 attacks are so last administration that we the people don’t remember the horror and fear, loss and grief, pain and suffering of that awful day? do they remember any of that? did they even feel it at the time? or did they simply think it was justice for the people who were stupid enough to elect W? i am mostly a calm, rational person who has honestly never hated another human being before in my life, and now i find myself often thinking i hate oblabo and his left wing minions. god help us get thru this idiot’s one and only term.

My daughter and son-in-law live in lower Manhattan and had the $hit scared out of them . . . they didn’t know where to run since they live only two blocks from Ground Zero. It was panic, and if nobody gets fired or put in jail for this madness, then something’s wrong. Did you see the panic on the faces of those hundreds of people running for their lives? And our jacka$$ of a president says he didn’t know what was going on with his OWN PLANE? What the hell is happening!
That video of the people running actually made me cry. I was so livid that they had to experience that fear again. Especially over a photo op.

This is said in the 5th paragraph down.
There is no hint that this was the president's plane in any of the preceding paragraphs and in none of the reports I heard yesterday early when I was listening.
And look at the mealy-mouthed way in which it's worded even here. You can leave that paragraph thinking that the plane might not be airforce one.
I don't believe they didn't know this. Our new president is a combo of Mao+Clinton+Goebbels.
Our local Fox affiliate here in Columbus, OH. presented it as the lead-in story and did it like this: “Low-flying jet over NYC creates panic, and the President is furious.”
