Mexico outbreak traced to 'manure lagoons' at pig farm

A village where residents have long complained about the smell and flies from a pig farm may be the source of the outbreak

Chris Ayres in Mexico City

The first known case of swine flu emerged a fortnight earlier than previously thought in a village where residents have long complained about the smell and flies from a nearby pig farm, it emerged last night.

The Mexican Government said it initially thought that the victim, Edgar Hernandez, 4, was suffering from ordinary influenza but laboratory testing has since shown that he had contracted swine flu. The boy went on to make a full recovery, although it is thought that at least 148 others in Mexico have died from the disease, and the number is expected to rise.

News of the infected boy is expected to create controversy in Mexico because the boy lived in Veracruz state, home to thousands of farmers who claim that their land was stolen from them by the Mexican Government in 1992. The farmers, who call themselves Los 400 Pueblos – The 400 Towns – are famous for their naked marches through the streets of Mexico City.

There IS also an outbreak of Dengue Fever on the west coast of Mexico, near Mazatlan. Over 200 people died of THAT already.

Libs will be all ready to use this as an excuse to shut down farms. This from February:

RFK Jr.: Hog farms bigger threat than Osama

Mr. Kennedy has said that he plans to go after all large farms in the country, not just pork producers. He has also said that the “right” lawsuit against livestock producers could bring damage awards of up to $13 billion

Haha! You caught that, too! I just knew it was going to be our fault somehow.

I wonder if zero will have to hastily call yet another presscon for tomorrow morning to apologize for this grave crime against innocent Mexicans.

Now the only question I have is, what will zero promise Mexico as reparations?

Pigs are an optimal lab for new cominations and strains. Ancient wisdom on pigs is borne out in modern times.

I read the whole story. It sounded like a mess of contradictions. Mexican liberals would love to blame this on corporate America, even if the farm is only partly owned by Americans because Mexico forbids Americans from owning land outright.

Pigs are unlikely to be the direct cause of this. It’s possible, but if the workers at the pig operation aren’t sick, then you have to wonder why.

Yes, they do. They smell like money.

Small hog farmers keep their stock environs clean, which means washing and scooping crap out of their pen two times per day.

The efflunce goes into a settling pond.

Crap smells like crap, human, bear, dog or hog.

Fish tasting like crap is very real- when we lived in south central Idaho years ago, before the Snake River was anything but a cess pool, there was great fishing for trout in one of the lakes. But they smelled like poo and they tasted like poo and we only fished there once.
