US News's Erbe Bashes 'Dishonest' Lila Rose, Tells Pro-Lifers to 'Go Away'

US News’s on-staff radical feminist Bonnie Erbe returned to attacking pro-lifers, her favorite subject of ire, in a blog entry on Monday. This time, she singled out “20-something abortion foe” Lila Rose, a junior at UCLA, for her “dishonest” and “pointless” undercover videos which she has taped at several Planned Parenthood locations. She seems to be most upset by how Rose has “created a public relations nightmare” for the abortion-mongering group, and called for the young woman’s prosecution for “ trespassing, fraud, and whatever other law she violated” for impersonating a 13-year-old statutory rape victim. The blogger later told pro-lifers to just “go away,” since they will “will never succeed in banning abortion.”

Erbe began by excerpting Robin Abcarian’s fair profile of Rose in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday, introducing her as a “20-something abortion foe who videotapes counseling sessions at Planned Parenthood clinics in which she poses as a 13-year-old impregnated by an older man.” The blogger saw two large “crimes” in this activity -- it has gained Rose quick notoriety in the “netherworld” of the pro-life movement, and it has given Planned Parenthood a few headaches:

1. Why don’t they investigate Rose for trespassing, fraud, and whatever other law she violated by posing as something she was not to make the videos?

ANSWER: What she did was not to uncover new information (we all knew that PP has been doing this for years). What she did was provide proof that this was going on.

Maybe she wouldn’t have to do this if the cops do their jobs and investigate the violations of law — most particularly mandatory reporting requirements (see citations on http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/laws_policies/index.htm)

2. Why don’t state authorities prosecute her for violating state privacy laws by videotaping private counseling sessions?

ANSWER: If the cops were doing their job, she wouldn’t have to do this, now would she. (By the way, where have your howls been about TV programs like Dateline setting up pedophiles?)

3. Since antiabortion foes will never succeed in banning abortion (they got as close as they will ever get with eight years of George Bush in the White House, and he left office as the worst president in American history) why don’t they just go away?

ANSWER: In the words of Hillary Clinton:

• I’m sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we’re Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.

I think this female misses a vital point - most of the pro-life message is about changing hearts and minds. The pro-death crowd still thinks it's about legality when it's more about social acceptance. You can't legislate that.

I doubt that Erbe has any idea how poorly reasoned was Blackmun's opinion in Roe v. Wade. It was as bad as Earl Warren's opinion in Brown. But Warren had the excuse of trying to overcome fifty years of bad precedent. Roe flew in the face of almost all precedent, founding its argument on the so-called right of privacy contrived by the court in Griswold just a few years before. Few jurists of standing at the time were comfortable with the opinion. Even those who supported the decision, such as now justice Ginsberg, were unconvinced by the opinion. No wonder Mr. Justice White in his dissent called it a "raw exercise of judicial power." It was in fact no more than an edict issued by the main instrument of elite opinion that the old sexual morality was no longer acceptable to them and that the public had damn well just accept what their betters told them.
