A White House official tells ABC News that President Obama was "furious" to hear about the incident this morning when Air Force One and Air Force fighter jets appeared to be flying into the Manhattan skyline, scaring many New Yorkers into thinking they were about to face another terrorist attack.
Many buildings in lower Manhattan evacuated. Angry New York politicians lashed out at whoever was responsible for the incident -- which turned out to have been for a photo op.
An explanation was forthcoming in a mea culpa statement issued from the White House.
“Last week, I approved a mission over New York," Louis Caldera, director of the White House military office, said.

Caldera was called into a meeting with White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina.
"It didn't sound like a fun meeting," the White House official says.
BS. Rahm Emanuel is probably laughing in his slippers. Interesting there is no name of this article source, "A White House official". Someone probably had to explain in detail to this administration what happened on 911 and why people were frightened. I wonder how the Manhattan/Jersey Obama supporters feel now.

Suppose this happened April, 27, 2006. The President is G.W.Bush.
How many calls would have been made for resignations and how high up would miz Pelosi be insisting for those resignations? You can bet the media wouldn’t be satisfied with the fact that the President was furious. He would have been crucified in the headlines for weeks.

I smell a rat. I think Obama knew about this and went ahead, and hopefully some FOIA requests dig up the paper trail I am very dubious. This is “let them eat pizza”, and the press is in the tank.
BTW - how come the Press stopped calling Hillary “a monster”.
Personally, I believe the photo-op story.
The man is running a never ending campaign, and one of his Hollywood type people decided that the "perfect shot" for a great campaign commercial would be of Air Force One flying regally by Manhattan.
And either Obama personally approved the request, or he gave some political guru douchebag the type of power that can scramble Air Force One and a couple of military craft on his own sayso.
Either way, there's alot of people who know the truth, and the Obama team are trying to figure out who to hang this on and how to spin it when the truth comes out. It's going to be messy for him, but luckily he can work with the New York Times, NBC, CBS, and many other saavy fellow travelers to control the damage.
