I'm having a polite (so far) discussion on the old "More people have been killed in the name of Christianity than any other religion" meme with an old liberal college acquaintance.
Any good history reference material documenting the levels of Christian vs Muslim violence? (More particularly the Muslims...)
The Koran
All you need to know is that MOST genocide has and continues to occur at the hands of non-religious powers. More people have been murdered for daring to utter the words, “I believe” as in I believe in a power greater than the state. Look around you, history is repeating itself in spades.
“More people have been killed in the name of Christianity than any other religion.”
Tell him to prove it.
And if he mentions the Crusades, laugh.
The Persian massacre of 90,000 Christians during the siege of Jerusalem in 614 AD
The Muslim conquest of Syria in 637
The Muslim conquest of Armenia in 639
The Muslim conquest of Egypt, 639
The Muslim conquest of North Africa, 652
The Muslim conquering of Visigothic Christian Hispania (Spain) in 711 AD.
The Muslim siege of Constantinople 717-718
The Muslim conquest of Tbilisi, 736
The Muslim conquest of Southern Italy and the looting of the Basilica of Saint Peter in 846 AD.
The continued Muslim attacks on the Byzantine Empire which FINALLY led to the first crusade.
Funny how all we ever learn is about those evil crusaders who attacked the harmless peaceful Muslims who never threatened them...
Why does the past even matter. Right NOW, the Muslims want to convert the entire world to their religion, at the point of a sword, if necessary.
Do we not defend ourselves because of the crusades? I’ve never even understood the premise of this argument. Even if this liberal is right, so what. I prefer to not be killed by muslims, even if it does ‘even the score’.
Look at the history of the 20th century. Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Hitler, Castro,... None of them were religious leaders.
Any book covering Islam in history would carry that material.
When Islam invaded the Indian subcontinent hundreds of millions were killed. It was an extremely brutal period in human history, spanning hundreds of years. The number of deaths is difficult to estimate let alone document. I had some references on my last computer that alas, it died. I’m sure some patient Googling could resurrect the info. The impression from my brief research on this topic is that the world total killed by Islam since its invention by Mohamed could approach one billion, easily exceeding the Nazi and Communist numbers in the 20th century.
By the way, the Catholic Inquisition (that the libs and anti-Christians like to bring up) only killed a few thousand, over many decades.
And tell those ignorant jerks to get a hold of some real history, and not that Marxist crap that's rattling around in their skulls like so many dead leaves and dried insects.
Try Andrew Bostom’s _The Legacy of Jihad_.
Drop a FReepmail to LS, he might know.
Show your friend the Wikipedia page on human sacrifice in Aztec culture.
Never forget that more people have died at the hands of left wing politics in less than 100 years than at the hands of Christianity for two millenia. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Hitler(even though the left tries to foist him on the right), Mugabe, and a host of two bit dictators have one thing in common, and that is they all adhered to a form of Statism, whether they called it Communism, Marxism, Fascism, or Socialism.
Atheist Communism killed more people in the 20th Century than all the deaths in all Christendom’s religious wars combined up to that point. Largely due to population and technology. Your friend has no idea what he’s talking about.
Neither is Obama.....I think.....
Bump that book.....I’ll have to get one.
“Why does the past even matter.”
The Past always foretells the Future. That’s why many schools require Latin with all the Latin history lessons. What The Messiah is doing now was foretold by reading the history of Neville Chamberlain and FDR.
