OBAMA'S POLL NUMBERS TRAIL THOSE OF W.; GALLUP COVERS IT UP
History News Network ^ | 4/25/2009 | Judith Apter Klinghoffer

Posted on 04/25/2009 8:02:48 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Gallup reports that 56% of the public believes that Obama is doing an excellent/good job. Gallup reported 62% approved of George W. Bush's job performance after the first 100 days. MSM tells us how popular Barack Obama is but the numbers tell a different story especially when used comparatively. Comparing the Gallup poll taken following the first 100 day of George W. Bush and Barack Obama is rather informative especially given the highly contentious nature of the 2000 election.

Here are the numbers for other presidents:

April approval ratings in first year in office

Bush now 62% Clinton, 1993 55 Bush, 1989 58 Reagan, 1981 67 Carter, 1977 63 Nixon, 1969 61 Sampling error: +/-3% pts

Now justify these headlines:

Gallup: First-100-Days-Obama-Meets-Exceeds-Expectations. By the way, the wording of the question is most suspect as many (including me) expected him to do just as poorly as he is doing. But Gallup is going even further. It uses his daily tracking poll to cover up the results of the 100 day poll.

USAToday:Poll: Public thinks highly of Obama

Chicago Tribune: Obama riding high in polls

The CNN headline for W. at the time was: Poll shows praise for Bush in most cases

Here are some more of the W. numbers:

Has vision 74% Can get things done 69 Tough enough 68 Honest and trustworthy 67 Strong leader 60 Cares about people 59% Shares your values 58 Keeps his promises 57 Understands issues 56 Inspires confidence 55 Sampling error: +/-3% pts

The same discrepancy can be found in the celebration of Michelle popularity. 79% approve of her performance compared to 85% that approved of Laura Bush.

Ergo? Much of America is still willing to give Obama time to prove himself even if 80% admit that his economic policies will harm their children and grand children and the rest are concerned about his reckless spending.

John Hindraker of Powerline also notes here :

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2009/04/023413.php

“As Klinghoffer notes, at the same point in their first term, George W. Bush scored 62 percent (despite Florida!); Jimmy Carter 63 percent; and Ronald Reagan 67 percent in the Gallup poll. Among recent Presidents, the lowest-rated at this stage was Bill Clinton at 55 percent.

We can contrast Gallup’s numbers with Scott Rasmussen’s. The big difference between Rasmussen’s survey and Gallup’s is that Rasmussen’s is a “likely voter” poll. Rasmusses also seems to control for party affiliation in a way that makes his numbers less volatile and, I think, more realistic. In Rasmussen’s survey, Obama’s approval rating has been between 54 percent and 56 percent for some time now, and “strong approvals” outnumber “strong disapprovals” by only a few percentage points.

The bottom line, I think, is that most Americans haven’t given up on Obama. Nor should they—after all, they elected him just a few months ago. At the same time, his overall approval, especially with those who pay a minimal amount of attention and vote, is nothing extraordinary. What is really significant, I think, is that Obama’s popularity is muted even though the ill effects of his policies have yet to be felt. Taxes haven’t gone up yet; inflation hasn’t hit; deficits have not yet proved (as they undoubtedly will) to greatly exceed Obama’s estimates; years of slow growth and elevated unemployment due to statist policies are still in the future; and foreign policy setbacks are yet to come.”

The polls numbers are so manipulated. My guess is he probably has a 42% approval rating if it that high. Parenst and grandparents who support this evil fool are so negligent.

Oh what the heck - Notre Dame university loves baby killers so why not.

Excellent point. This cant be stated enough. The spit WILL hit the fan, and he is going to tank. Not just yet, unfortunately.

This is normal group think and group psychology.

People WANT to be in the majority, with their opinions. This, and some degree of patriotism, always gives a new POTUS a “honeymoon” -—

People do not want to think that they made a mistake.

On the other hand -—

Once people understand that they have been flimflammed the numbers will tank for Obama.

People hate to admit that they were wrong, but people GLADLY like to find someone to BLAME (OBAMA) for their bad decision!

Obama LIED the Economy DIED!

I have always said that the Dems biggest problem will be getting out the Black vote in the mid terms, when Obama is not on the ballot.

Give it time.

This arrogant jerk will not wear well, with the American people.

Gallup has been in the pocket of the rats for decades, so for that organization to manipulate the numbers comes as absolutely no surprise. Rasmussen plays it straight, and as a result is gaining more and more credibility. Zogby shot himself in the foot with his pandering to Muslim terrorists and so you don’t hear much about him anymore.

But reporting this doesn’t go well with all of the propaganda....we need cap and trade.... and.... and.... and! *sarcasm* Seriously, people are already starting to complain, just wait until the next unemployments numbers come out! Remember car plants go down for 9 weeks soon instead of two weeks in July. That means lots of part manufacturers and the supporting buisnesses also scale back. This is very bad news and can NOT be blamed on Bush, this is all Obama all of the time now 100 days are up he did the car comapny bail out!

The main stream media has declared war on America!!

We can fight-off the enemy without, but the enemy within is cunning, insidious and unrelenting.

There is no standards in journalism today!

Reporting facts and the truth is a long lost art.

But more and more people get their news from non-traditional sources that bypass the MSM's ideological filters. We're off to a good start.

Time for a more realistic look at O’Bummer’s numbers.

"What arrogance"

One of the basic elements of liberalism. The others are Greed, sloth, Envy, bitterness, and hatred.

Polls show even though the public is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, they are definitely against his policies.

So his poll numbers cannot last.

“USAToday:Poll: Public thinks highly of Obama “

Yeah, what gives? What’s with this crap about an adoring public? Didn’t the two MSNBC polls show over 50% of the public give this goof an “F” in everything?
