Since leaving my post as CIA director almost three years ago, I have remained largely silent on the public stage. I am speaking out now because I feel our government has crossed the red line between properly protecting our national security and trying to gain partisan political advantage. We can't have a secret intelligence service if we keep giving away all the secrets. Americans have to decide now.

Mr. Goss they already have. Sadly, they have little idea of what they are doing. And the failure of you and your predecessors to speak out against the enemy within, the communist party in the United States, has caused this situation.
fyi
The writer, a Republican, was director of the CIA from September 2004 to May 2006 and was chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence from 1997 to 2004.
Was it necessary to identify him as a Republican? When they identify a former Clinton official, it is just their position and years served....nothing about party affiliation.
Yes - our fellow countrymen are still quite satisfied with the usurper they have placed in the White House. It will be years before they see him for what he is....by then, it will be too late.
"That's the idea"
This isn't rocket science. President Obama's a lot of things, but he's not stupid. He's a visionary, and part of his vision entails an America that less capable of interfering and intervening in the rest of the world.
If Barry's slashing the tires, it's not because he doesn't understand that if you let the air out they won't work. It's because he doesn't want you to drive the car.
xactly - he’s on a mission.
They "forgot" to mention that Goss worked for the CIA as an intelligence officer. Of course, Republican is the first thing mentioned to describe him.
Judging from many of the responses in the Washington Posts comments section - it is pretty clear that most still don’t get it.
AMEN to that!! Porter Goss is a hero!! I have known of him for fifty years!!!
There are some really bold faced liars and cowardly bastards on capital hill. It is a total disgrace. You know darn well the democratic leadership gave the OK when they were targets. Now that the apparent threat is over, they plead ignorance for political gain.
Well, you have to give the ComPost credit for publishing this very strong and clear article at all—which not only points out what damage has been done, and will be done if it continues, but also points out that the Democrats KNEW ABOUT AND APPROVED waterboarding and other forms of “torture.” And if they’ve seen recent headlines, they’ll know that that means Nancy Pelosi in particular.
I’m not sure what the WaPo’s reasons were for publishing this at all—even with that warning “Republican” label. Maybe they think that it’s not going to do their Saint Obama any good if he lets this go forward any further, so it’s a shot across the bow. In any case, it’s good to get this out there.
Bush made Porter Goss head of the CIA to clean out the clintonoids and carterites—the leakers, underminers, and traitors. He tried, but the difficulties were too great, and eventually Bush was forced to replace him. I wish Bush had just stuck it out, but he was too anxious to please, and gave in. The replacement CIA head was basically just a figurehead or placeholder, IMHO.
We can’t have a secret intelligence service if we keep giving away all the secrets. “Americans have to decide now”,a look at obamas polls prove to many people lack the ability to think or reason the dumbing down plan has worked very well and we all pay for it.
From the article:
-- The chairs and the ranking minority members of the House and Senate intelligence committees, known as the Gang of Four, were briefed that the CIA was holding and interrogating high-value terrorists.
-- We understood what the CIA was doing.
-- We gave the CIA our bipartisan support.
-- We gave the CIA funding to carry out its activities.
-- On a bipartisan basis, we asked if the CIA needed more support from Congress to carry out its mission against al-Qaeda.
I’m not sure that you really want to hear my response to that question, GBA....let me know if you’re sitting down before you ask again.
