President Obama's aides are preparing to a mount a media broadside to mark his first milestone in office
As the White House prepares to reach the 100 days milestone since President Obamas inauguration, it is being true to the form shown over the preceding 99: to exploit ruthlessly American politics while simultaneously asking that the President be judged by a different standard.
The strategy is to swat aside any effort to reach an early verdict, on the ground that the Administration has faced unprecedented challenges, but to acknowledge nonetheless that Wednesday on which the 100th day falls may be a useful moment to reflect on how much has been accomplished.
David Axelrod, Mr Obamas senior adviser, scorns the date as a "Hallmark holiday", a construct with no real significance beyond the media. Scarcely pausing for breath, the White House then announced a prime-time televised press conference to be held that evening and embarked on a round of briefings, comparing the first months in office to those of "other transformative presidencies".
By any measure the pace has been frenetic. The President has ordered the closure of the Guantánamo Bay prison camp, the end of "enhanced interrogation techniques" and for troops to be withdrawn from Iraq; recast military strategy in Afghanistan; travelled to nine countries and met the leaders of almost 60.
On top of this he has signed legislation that makes it easier for women to sue for job discrimination and extends health coverage to millions of children; eased a ban on stem-cell research; sacked the head of General Motors; intervened in the housing and credit markets; reached out to the Muslim world; tried to improve relations with Cuba; drawn up a $3.6 trillion (£2.4 trillion) budget and forced a bitterly contested $787 billion stimulus Bill through Congress.

Let’s hope he leaves a crater.
Personally, I’d like for him to pull a (Judge) Crater...
...the media is going to get tough on the guy?
They’ll have to get their lips off his ass cheeks first....
Hey B.O., where’s your B.C.?
They're around his D**k. The Press are the real Teabaggers.
What utter propaganda!
Are you reading this talk show hosts and pundints?
Are you paying attention?
How long have they been waiting to pull this out, to play the right direction card?
How many times did they say we're going in the wrong direction?
Over and over and over...like a damned hypnotist!
This guy is a PR sham. All he does is show himself off. Too bad there’s nothing there. They must be working 24/7 to promote Zero.
“By any measure the pace has been frenetic.”
Boy I’ll say! Other than dropping the atom bombs on Japan, I don’t think there has ever been a country in the history of mankind that has been gutted so quickly.
This guy has really set some records, by golly.
The media broadsided America with a millstone, then Obama hung it around the country's neck.
Anyone see the “crowds” at his “earth worship day” performance? Yeh, I didn’t see “crowds” either.
When the obuma mob does make an appearance, it’s a raggy-looking collection of stoned, bed-wetting college kids, zero IQ rappers, fat welfare mommas and Move-on moonbats - the Ripple & Roach political party.
Reminds me the Wobblies movement. One of the stranger Wobblie stories I recall is their method to break out of jail. Wobblie leaders told their drones that if they were arrested in mass after a violent labor protest, they were to all jump up and down simultaneously. The vibration would cause the building to collapse and they could all walk out.
The whole preemption of the media sounds so North Korea-ish.
Kim O’bambi is getting on everyone’s nerves by this point.
“This guy has really set some records, by golly.”
Sadly, the MSM doesn’t keep a running tally, but my guess is that Obama outpaces all other presidents (even Bill Clinton) in the number of instances of brazen mendacity during his first 100 days. When the public wakes up his 60+ approval rating will be in the toilet.
The verdict is already in.
