"I think it's extremely unfair to Asian-Americans on the one hand...

But it's fair that half the students are Asian when only 12% of Californians are Asian? Imagine how outraged he'd be if the percentage of whites students was four times their population percentages. He'd blow a gasket.

Note he mentioned Asian-Americans. No one has any problem with an Asian-American getting admitted over a nonAsian-American, as long as his grades are better, all other things being equal. Admissions should be grade-based and strictly competitive, imo, race playing no role whatsoever.

What I didn't like when I was at UC, was the huge number of Chinese nationals who gain admission over American students. The place was overflowing with them, both among the undergraduate and graduate ranks.

And forget about the number of Chinese professors! Of all the Chinese professors in the math and physics departments at the two campuses I attended, only one was a natural born American citizen. The rest were all foreign nationals. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them were spies. Even dropped a couple of classes because their accents were so bad, you couldn't understand a thing they were saying.

When it comes to non-verbal types, e.g. mathematicians, physicists, engineers, it's up to the student to also learn to understand the professor, not the other way around.
