Solana says Iran’s response provides ‘new opportunity’

TEHRAN – Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) chief spoke on phone with European Union’s top diplomat Javier Solana after Tehran released a statement announcing it was ready to hold “constructive and fair” talks with major powers, the SNSC said in a press release on Thursday.

Solana who represents major powers in talks with Iran said Tehran’s statement ""contains constructive items and a new opportunity for advancement of talks.""

Jalili also said the Islamic Republic’s statement ""provides a suitable approach for the advancement of talks in an atmosphere of fairness and mutual respect.""

In a statement released on Wednesday Iran officially announced it welcomes “constructive and fair talks based on mutual respect and cooperation”. It added Iran will continue its nuclear activities in “active collaboration” with the International Atomic Energy Agency “within the framework of the NPT like other members”.

The statement was Tehran’s response to the United States, Russia, China, France, Germany and Britain which on April 8 said they would ask Solana to invite Iran to a new round of talks over the country’s nuclear issue.

The U.S. and a few of its European allies have been pressing Iran to freeze its uranium enrichment activities. However, Iran as a country that has signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), insists that its nuclear activities are solely aimed at producing electricity to meet the nation’s growing demand.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is monitoring all the processes of nuclear activities in Iran by installing cameras and making regular inspections

Javier Solana is an enemy of the United States, and IMO the Western world.

Right. Continue the negotiations and continue the development of your nuclear program. Talking just buys more time and time is on the side of the Iranians.

Re “Constructive talks”. Iran means, “You surrender, we win”.

F*ck the UN and Solana. They are more useless than a week old dog turd.

And take ElBaradei with you.

in one word OIL. Iran is important for EU because “we” buy a lot of oil from them. Israel has no oil so it´s not important for EU. Israel is just seen as another state somewhere in the middle east “we” don´t need to care because they have little to nothing of our interesst. Iran is a important trade partner, Israel is not. just follow the money it will explain most of the politics.
