Some of his actions have unsettled liberals, but it's the economy that could undermine Obama's support
Democratic strategists are concerned that some of President Obama's recent policy decisions may end his honeymoon with his party's liberal activists. "His problem will be, how can he convince the left to let him be pragmatic?" says a prominent Obama supporter.
Obama has unsettled liberals by delaying his promised withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq by a few months and by defending some of the Bush administration's antiterrorism policies, including the protection of "state secrets" in a way that some liberals believe goes too far.
Some liberals are also upset at what they consider the administration's waffling on whether the Justice Department should prosecute senior Bush administration officials who authorized harsh interrogation techniques or whether a special commission should investigate the matter.
"Overall, the irony is we have more troops now in Iraq and Afghanistan than we did under Bush and the deficit has doubled," says the Obama supporter.
He adds that Obama's problems will be even worse if the economy fails to improve in the next few months. At that point, everyday Americans and people on the left may not give him the benefit of the doubt anymore.
A prominent Obama advocate says, "He's getting a pass now, but at the end of the summer, people will say, 'Why doesn't my brother have a job yet?' "

“Goofballs vs Goof”
I use this analogy frequently but I think Obama will be the political equivalent of former Notre Dame football coach Tyrone Willingham.
After Willingham overachieved in his first year as head coach, the Irish fans treated him like a savior. But when his next year regressed back to mediocrity, the fan base became disenchanted and one year later he was fired for current coach Charlie Weis (who is experiencing the same career path but was cheeky enough to get a long term contract first).
Obama is a savior now to the Democrat fan base but as he makes more and more mistakes and the economy continues to tank, the more his base will become disenchanted. Right now, the media is covering his ass because they propped up this guy something fierce and can’t afford to look like idiots but they, too, will eventually turn on him - particularly as more newsrooms contract or close altogether.
The “head coach”, fair or not, is going to get blamed for the losses when they start to pile up. The real question is whether the electorate is going to send the Democrats a loud message in 2010 or if they are still going to move into 2012 with the illusion that America needs a headlong thrust into socialism.
What? You mean they aren't the same thing? I thought we were all socialists now.
This is pure BS meant to position Obama as the moderate attacked by the “Left.” Obama is the biggest Leftist and radical of them all. His mentors like Frank Davis Marshall, William Ayers, Rev. Wright, Farakahn, Bernadette Dohrn, etc. and his days as a community organizer make him a Marxist and the most radical, America-hating President in our history.
Obama is blowing $3.6T this year, a huge chunk of that coming from unsustainable deficit spending and going to wasteful payoffs to partisan interest groups, and this writer is trying to convince the left to let Obama “be pragmatic” in her words? Wow!
That is correct.
Mayeb one of them will start to wonder about that pesy birth certificate thingy
Because he's too conservative? That has to be it.
Yeah, I’m confused. Is this a media CYA or an Obama inc. propaganda piece, or both.
A sort of purge and embarassment might be in the works. It’s not clear whether the piece is trying legitimize supporting Obama then and not now using contradictorial arguments ill pieced together. sheesh.
The left is thrilled with the guy. I don’t believe a single article that says the left is criticizing him. They will be even happier once the 2000 “torture” images are released to the media.

I use a different analogy. The mutt caught the car. Now what?
Here’s another reason
I’m afraid the affirmative action liar-in-chief doesn’t take the job that seriously. It’s a means to his Marxist ends don’tchaknow.
I so know....all the OBAMAITES are coming to fruition and are smelling the horse menure they created.
