I disagree. I think they should reduce it to 1/3 of a child. Don’t laugh.....some politician will suggest that one of these days.
An alternative would be to have Liberals have NO kids and Conservatives four per couple, minimum.

said this week that Australia’s 22 million people must be reduced to 7 million and that restricting each couple to one baby, as China does, is “one way of assisting to reduce the population” and avoiding “environmental suicide.”
When ever these groupscome out with these plans I say YOU FIRST.You think they are too many people then act now. No one is stopping you from leaving..

They insist on reducing native births and then insist on increased immigration rates to offset the losses.
What a bunch of fruitcakes. They are convinced beyond any doubt that because much of Australia is a desert, that it is all it can ever be, or it’s not “environmental”.
They probably object to people living in buildings, because it is not “natural”. Latrines, as well, defeat the important value of not having poop all over the ground. And fire bad.
The problem with this idea is that it seems that it will inevitably lead to a situation with few young people and many old ones who will be in need of support.
The young ones will have to be taxed to the max to support the old one’s pensions and health care. Its a longterm unsustainable proposition- unless the Australians find a way to reduce the older population.
And in the next generation, who will pay for the taxes? No people to pay taxes? OMG - who’d have thunk. Thank god I’ll be dead by then.
I know liberals have self destructive tendencies, but I am beginning to wonder if they have Susan Smith syndrome. Like, kill off your inner demon by killing someone else. Suicide/Malthusian by proxy.
I wonder if that’s what drives most to have an abortion, kill off guilt for having irresponsible sex and then repeating the cycle because new guilt is there because of the abortion.
Australia’s version of welfare currently pays people so much per baby that there are “career mothers”, who do nothing to support themselves except get pregnant. (At least, according to a friend of mine who lives there.)
If they did have a population problem, wouldn’t the first step be to revise that program, rather than suddenly slamming down on every parent?
We need to continue to fight, or we will have this instituted in the U.S.A..
