The night deputies said Delores Laster shot her husband in the back of the head, she recruited his two young children to help move his near-lifeless body, according to newly released discovery in the case.

Laster, 61, who was an Orange County Public School teacher for 40 years, was indicted on a first-degree murder charge last month for the shooting death of her husband, Clarence Laster, in March 1988.

Rest assured that the teachers union will see that she continues to be paid for the next several years until they can decide whether or not to discipline her.

After allegedly shooting her husband, Laster woke her step-daughter and told her to help move the body from the master bedroom to the garage . . . . When the two were unable to lift him, Laster recruited more help from her young step-son. Laster's step-daughter woke her brother and told him their father was injured and he needed to help move him to the garage, report show. The family never discussed the death again . . .

Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. If these kids were old enough at the time to actually be of assistance in moving the body that their adult stepmother couldn't move by herself, they were plenty old enough to ask a lot of questions and TELL SOMEBODY. Keeping in mind that this was their STEPmother and that the body she asked them to move was that of their natural father, it seems very very unlikely that they would have regarded her as source of safety and security that they couldn't afford to have taken away from them, and so chose to "keep the secret" out of fear that they'd lose their stepmother. UNLESS the father was a brutal terror that the stepmother and both kids were relieved to be rid of. I really think there's got to be a LOT more to this story than we're reading here.
