Obama administration to release Bush-era detainee photos
The pictures show Americans' alleged abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.
An ACLU lawyer says they prove that Abu Ghraib 'was not aberrational.'

Reporting from Washington -- The Obama administration agreed late Thursday to release dozens of photographs depicting alleged abuse by U.S. personnel during the Bush administration of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At least 44 pictures will be released on May 28 -- making public for the first time images of what the military investigated as abuse that took place at facilities other than the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
Military helped with CIA interrogation tactics, report says Defense officials would not say exactly what is contained in the photos, but said they are concerned that the release could incite a backlash in the Middle East.
The photos are apparently not as shocking as the photographs from the Abu Ghraib investigation that became a lasting symbol of U.S. mistakes in Iraq. But some show military service members intimidating or threatening detainees by pointing weapons at them. Military officers have been court-martialed for threatening detainees at gunpoint.
"This will constitute visual proof that, unlike the Bush administration's claim, the abuse was not confined to Abu Ghraib and was not aberrational," said Amrit Singh, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, which obtained the agreement as part of a long-running legal battle for documents related to Bush-era anti-terror policies.

What do people think wars entail? Marquis of Queensberry rules, and tea party etiquette? Our Military is more gracious than any in the history of the world - but when 'bad stuff' happens - it happens. Its war. When we send our warriors to battle - support them. Don't stab them in the back...
And 'shocking as the photographs from Abu Ghraib'...please. You show me people using drills, power saws, and the like - I'll get offended. People embarrassing terrorist thugs -- sure, they shouldn't have done it - but I'm neither 'offended', nor do I believe the participants deserved more than a slap on the wrist (if even that).
Hell, there are SO many things he could be jailed over.
Let’s start thinking of them NOW.
Starting with the false advertising of being The Messiah.
And the additional false advertising of probably not being
eligible to be President in the first place.
What are all those lawyers of his trying to stop, when they’ve gone to court to quash all investigations into his
background?
“Obama wont be President forever. The next administration can jail him for screwing up the economy.”
Yep. These games work both ways.
He is providing us proof that he works for the Saudis and they bought his election.
We need to get a BC/NBC case to SCOTUS with tens of thousands of active military plaintiffs as john and jane doe to protect them.
Razzle Dazzle? This is starting to get really screwy....do they REALLY think the majority of Americans CARE how terrorists “FEEL?” I think maybe the elitists myopia is starting to reveal them even more....
Holy crap!! I'm traumatized just thinking about it!
FMCDH(BITS)
What is the purpose of this, other than to spread negativity.
“would not say exactly what is contained in the photos, but said they are concerned that the release could incite a backlash”
Yeah. It might cause the Islamists to throw acid in the face of girls in the Hindu Kush, it might even cause Islamists to murder Christian villagers in Mindanao, or cause Islamists to blow up night clubs in Bali, or cause Islamists to hang retarded high school girls in Iran, or cause Islamists to raze villages in Nigeria, or cause Islamists to murder school children in Central Asia or cause Islamists to blow themselves up in Isreal, or...
I agree. I meant BFD in relation to scaring the poor terrorists.
Poor terrorists.. We were so mean to them & subjected them to unspeakable torture!! All they every did was blow-up our troops - beheaded some of them & dragged their bodies in the streets. But, what counts is that we have to show them - the dictators & the world that we are good people!!
We're missing a critical prerequisite - a political party with b*lls.
Obama is such a kitty (wink, wink). When he starts to feel the heat of any issue he will take whatever steps necessary to flip the coin.
Cheney must be hitting a very raw nerve. Rather than declassify documents that would support Cheney’s point of view, he is deliberately releasing those pics to further demonize the Bush admnistration.
In doing so he will intensify the hatred the left has for the military and the hatred the TERRORISTS (Yes Obama, they are terrorists) have for this country. It will be done with the condescending “We praise those who serve this country blah, blah, blah.”
He has sorely underestimated the Love of Country most of Americans have. I do not think using the military as a tool to create animosity will sit well.
What’d you think would happen with CPUSA’s guy won the White House?
Westmorland stayed on when he should have dumped his stars and resigned for the way the Vietnam War was handled. At the General level you have politicians and lots of them.
Great. The enemy will love to put these pictures on their “Death to America” websites.
These people (Obama and his cronies) hate the military and hate the USA. Fools.
It may be worse than that. We may see where they had pink panties put over their heads.
This release is to try to keep the left sated because the Senate has said they will not be having hearings.
I hope youre right about that. He does think hes prez for life.
****
Maybe he plans to be. Destroy country...squash dissent...declare Marshall Law...do away with constitution....Waa Laa..prez. for life just like Castro his buddy.
