Napolitano Draws Resignation Calls After Gaffes on Veterans, Canada
Fox News ^ | April 23, 2009 | Catherine Herridge

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is under fire for what critics see as a string of gaffes, with a small but vocal group of conservatives calling for her to step down.

The outrage continues to build over a report from her department that warned of the danger of right-wing "extremists," and singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment.

Napolitano expressed regret for the reference to veterans -- but she raised eyebrows again this week when she suggested that the Sept. 11 hijackers entered the United States through Canada, even though the 9/11 Commission determined they came to the United States from overseas.

"I don't know that the secretary understands the depth of the disruption that she's caused," Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, told FOX News on Thursday, referring to the report on extremist threats. "I think the appropriate thing to do is for her to step down and let's move on."

Conservatives made a stern call for her ouster Wednesday night on the House floor.

"Mr. President, fire that woman," said Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, complaining that Napolitano's comments on the controversial report were half-hearted. "To go on television and say your apology to be, 'I'm sorry you were offended by this report,' that's no apology."

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., also said Napolitano's resignation is in order, and she should be brought before Congress for a hearing.

Napolitano on Thursday acknowledged the criticism and reiterated that the extremist report was "not well written" and should not have been released in that form. She said she would meet with the leadership of the American Legion on Friday over the reference to returning war veterans.

But she rebuffed those who say an apology is not enough.

"That's what they're going to get," Napolitano said.

Janet is a remake of Janet Reno, but not half as slick. Don't you just love this exchange.......

"But she rebuffed those who say an apology is not enough.

"That's what they're going to get," Napolitano said.

Arrogant to a fault, this political hack is like many in the Obama administration.....her climb to the top here in AZ is legend.

AMEN, Michele! Janet should resign and be hauled before Congress for a hearing!

I think more American people are starting to realize that what’s in Washington is NOT the “change” they were expecting.

I can’t wait for the Obama adminstration to declare war on Canada for its involvement in 9/11, as alleged by Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. Or for her to blame the Jews for it too.

She put her foot in it because she was trying to make the case that Canada is just as bad for America as Mexico’s border.

Except that the Canadian military is not crossing into our country to guard drug smugglers.

Obama should resign now. He’s endangering our country, leaving us exposed to another 9/11.

Her replacement would be selected by BHO so isn't likely to be any better.

Maybe she'll get us into war with Canada. That wouldn't be good--the Obama people would be able to arrest Mark Steyn as an enemy alien.

It’ll probably work out like Clinton’s loss of Sec. of Health, Joycelyn Elders.

Janet Napolitano stood in defense of an NHS report issued to local law enforcement agencies detailing that because of the economy and the racial background of our new president, veterans and “single issue voters” of the conservative persuasion posed a national security threat.

Joycelyn Elders said that old people were just going to die anyway and it was young people who would be paying to fund social security. She was making the case that under Hillarycare and existing programs, we should not be spending expenses on the last few years of life to prolong the death of America’s elderly. Rationing begins with those who are not useful to the government.

Joycelyn Elders was dismissed over a statement that we should be teaching kids to masturbate (something the sex positive agenda advocates already do).

It would not suprise me to see Janet Napolitano leave over a Canadian “gaffe”. Or some other gaffe.

She may have even been reading off a teleprompter like her boss is known to do.

His agenda has always been to destroy the U.S...not defend it. The idiocracy voted for national suicide.

Real classy, Janet. Throw the flunky under the bus who wrote what you told them to write. A real leader would either take responsibility and genuniely apologize or stand by their report and defend it.
