JEFFERSON CITY House Republicans revolted yesterday against scores of proposed earmarked projects, demanding that their party instead use $1 billion of the states federal stimulus money for a refund to taxpayers.
House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin, said this morning that GOP members rejected a spending plan drafted by the House Budget Committee and insisted on a large taxpayer refund. The decision came yesterday during a closed caucus meeting.
Over half the caucus has said we overspent, acting like Washington D.C., Richard said at his weekly donut breakfast with Capitol reporters. We said, Fine, well come up with another plan.

MO ping list fodder?
Low volume ping list
FReepmail me to be on, or off, this list.
He said details were still under discussion but the proposed rebate could amount to $500 per taxpayer.
I don't know about you but I could use an extra $500 of the federal government's bailout money and if it's coming through the state of Missouri, I can handle that too.

Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
Missouri REPUBLICANS
Our great democancerous govenor would love to spend ALL the money...
Wow - you are quick!!! ;-)
Maybe too quick, what with the double post.
“Our great democancerous govenor would love to spend ALL the money.”
Yes, he would, but he won’t get to!
We Missourians are going to “Show” Barack Obama what we’re all about!
Let’s see. Missouri has a population of about approximately 5.9 million. So, $1 billion / 5.9 million = approximately $169. So, not a lot, but not bad.
Another $1200 stimulus check would ease our minds a bit since it would ultimately pay off some lingering medical stuff that is a bit scary to still have to pay on every month with the economy right now.
Of course numbskull Obama thought $10 bucks a week was a better idea instead, the socialist.
Ahhh, but the way I read this it will only go back to "taxpayers".
This might raise the figure some.
I don't want another "prebate".
If they're going to give me money give it to me free and clear.
I could use a little "stimulus" money also but I don't expect to get any since I already have a job.
Nixon has no ideology of his own. Reelection is his sole cause and purpose so he will go toward whatever route benefits him most. Since any Democrat has the urban areas locked up he needs to do things to appeal to the rest of the state.
Thanks Joe.
Whoa! But as a Missourian I say... “Show Me.”
True.
Why not loan the stimulus $$$ to Ameren so they can get started on that 2nd unit at Callaway?
That would put the money back into the economy and provide a long-term return on the investment.
Any money the government “gives” is going to have strings attached.
I disagree with using payday loans to bribe us into falling into the statist trap of tax slavery.
I could “use” $500. Sure. Who couldn’t? With interest added on the government debt, WE WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF OUR WAGES considerably more because there are too many freeloaders that pay NO income tax, who will also get the freebie. We will be forced to PAY for their “share”, plus their share of the interest.
If it actually goes to TAXPAYERS, fine. I guess.
But freeloaders are NOT taxpayers.
I am sick of government handing out OUR money so some politician can pound his chest and brag his re-electability.
Instead of handing out money, why not lower income taxes?
I can manage my money much better than letting government manage MY money so they can “let” me have some back.
