Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Granite Bay, introduced legislation on Tuesday that would allow banks to immediately pay back Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to the U.S. Treasury.
Some banks that accepted TARP funding are now facing obstacles in how they will pay the money back to the government.
It is a travesty that banks seeking to repay taxpayer money should be prohibited from doing so after taxpayers were promised that repayment would be made as soon as humanly possible, McClintock said in a press statement.
The bill is narrowly written to amend the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act to require the Secretary of the Treasury to unconditionally and immediately accept such repayments, and does not otherwise interfere with existing regulations of the banking system.
ping
And another PING!
McClintock Ping List.
Please freepmail me if you want on or off this list
No they won’t.
Timmie has said no.
You go TOM!
Please add me to your list Cowgirl! Tom’s my guy and my Rep, too!
Tom is doing a GREAT job of representing those of us lucky enough to live in his district. This bill,if it eventually passes, would be a smackdown against the incompetent Geitner at Treasury.
Done!
Toms my guy and my Rep, too!
You lucky gal, you!
I have Jane up-for-sale Harman as my rep.
You lucky gal, you!
Actually I do feel lucky, "by accident of address"! ;)
Not sure if I mentioned this to you before -- but Tom McClintock does something I have never seen a politician do -- he has Conference Call "Townhalls" with his constituents.
On Tea Party Day, my phone rang and it said, "This call is from Representative Tom McClintock who'd like you to join in on a conference call Townhall now in progress. If you'd like to join in and stay on the line, press 1. If at any time you'd like to comment or ask Tom a question, press the star key". I could hear Tom answering people's questions real time. It was pretty cool. By the time I figured out what I wanted to ask him, the call was almost over so I didn't get the chance, but I'll be better prepared next time.
Dolittle's office used to answer emails, but I never got a call from him. But this was even neater because I had just heard Tom McClintock speak that day at the Tea Party at the Capitol so I was already thinking about politics when he called.
Cool with the conference calls!
I remember emailing McClintock once when he was State Senator. It was right after the recall election — I think it had something to do with a bond initiative or some similar issue. I fully expected to get 1) ignored, 2) a robot reply like I get from Feinstein or 3) a comment from a staffer. Instead, I got an email back from Tom. It was pretty impressive.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a phonecall, piece of mail, or email from Jane I-can-be-bought Harman.
This is neat... All the comforts of home and FR too!!! Tomorrow night should be somewhere in NM!!! WOW!!!
First time I've ever tried this WiFi thingy... AMAZING!!!
Cool! Hope you’re enjoying your vacation!
EXCELLENT position for Republicans to run with.
The current scam is sort of like the mob.
You can join. But you can’t quit...
I do not and have never lived in Tom’s district. He personally answered every single email I ever sent him
He is awesome.
Sounds like his staff probably works late on those nights to work the computers and take the incoming calls during the entire conference call hour. I bet they are a fine bunch of dedicated people.
I wish he could be cloned. :-)
(... but I don’t support cloning, LOL)
No doubt! ;-) I sure wouldn't be against it! LOL
BTTT
It's far more important that you have a good time on my vacation!!! I'm now posting to you from the laundry room of a very nice RV park in San Antonio, TX.
By the way... On the surface you could never tell there was any kind of "recession" goin on in this town!!!
Pardon me whilst I pings a few other FReepers. I only bought 24 hrs on this particular WiFi service that had the stongest signal in here for $5...
What a relief. I was in your town with my boss on Friday and thought I'd have to make up an excuse for not giving you a heads up in advance.
