Just in time for Earth Day.
My desk | 4/22/2009 | ElkGroveDan

Just in time for Earth Day. An example of the most annoying aspects of environmentalism I experience in my daily life; flawed products. In the name of feel-good, arbitrary symbolism we are stuck with poor quality, ineffective junk like this paper coffee cup that leaked on my desk this morning.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Extended News; Government; US: California
KEYWORDS: earthday; environmentalism
There are hundreds of examples of this kind of crap, from the mercury in CFL bulbs to enviromentally correct foam packing peanuts that compress and leave breakables bouncing around in a box.

I'd be interested in commentary and discussion on the ways environmentalism causes difficulties in our every day lives.

The eco-friendly coating on the shuttle fuel tank top the list of environmental 2nd rate products, imho.

Meanwhile, as Starbucks is busy kissing up to the Enviros. Who is one of the most hated companies by the anti capitalism groups? Starbucks that's who. Which proves the theory that you try to kiss your enemies butt to appease them and as always they will take more. Too bad the Pres. doesn't understand that.

Plastic bags have become worthless too, they fall apart are you are carrying the items in them. And the grocery stores that use them want to double them up or give you your items in 6-10 different small bags.

They also think that some coffee bean farming exploits the workers, you need to be buying fairtrade Sandanista coffee excreted by cute cat-monkeys.

And the girl behind the counter went out with their “ex”. They hate Starbucks for that too.

Can you imagine what the founders would have said if someone told them that there would one day be a _federal_ law regulating how much water you could use when using the toilet?

I know, they didn’t have flushers then, but it could be explained.

Maybe they would have put more safeguards on federal power... probably wouldn’t have mattered, the courts would have worked around any barriers.

How much water you could use in your bedpan or how many times you could visit your privy. How many candles you could own and who could manufacture them.

How about the “safe,” environment-friendly fireproofing that has replaced asbestos in high-rise buildings? I was living in Manhattan when the designers of the World Trade Center were bragging that their buildings would be the first to use the new, non-hazardous fire retardant....
