Prayer request for Brett, older brother to one of my son's baseball team mates. _________________________________________________________
First of all: THANK YOU! We appreciate your calls, texts, food, etc. thru the last few days. We have not been able to get back to everyone and thought we would try this to get many of you. I am home for a few hours and decided to try this option to reach most of you. Im sure I have missed some, but it wasnt intentional! Please feel free to forward on to anyone else you know has been interested.
Update as of Tuesday Evening:
Given an IV hour long dose of caffeine along with fluids to see what it does. Options: nothing, stop the head pain completely, stop the head pain temporarily/wear off with time. As of now, it has stopped the pain and he was able to sit up in a slight recline and eat supper. Yea! Time will tell whether it stays that way, they say we will know sometime during the night. Please pray that it does! An MRI is schedule at 7:00 AM to see if it shows anything more/different than the CAT scan already done. A type of nuclear scan is scheduled for Thursday if necessary, but Stan and I are hesitant about this one. Long story, Im not sure if we will go thru with that. Well see.
Recap:
Brett started having a headache Friday late morning which progressed thru the afternoon to include vomiting, more head pain, and finally disoriented. By the time him and I got to prompt care, he couldnt understand questions being asked of him or answer basic questions. They sent us to the emergency room right away where we stayed for a few hours; getting pain managed and vomiting reduced, CAT scan, blood work, and lumbar puncture. CAT scan was negative (whew!) and initial tests results were good. They decided to send us on to Childrens Mercy late that night.
Since arriving there, the rest of the test results indicated no infection. They decided to treat as a migraine. First med made him sleep for eight hours, but still had pain when he woke up. The second med was given over a 24 hour time period and results were still the same. BUT, pain and nausea were helped or greatly decreased with these medicines as long as he is laying horizontal. No disorientation. But when he is trying to sit and/or stand up, the pain returns A LOT and he returns to laying flat and having the pain slowly subside.
Please pray that the next 24 hours show continued relief. Well let you know what tomorrow brings!
I did do this fast and tried to make sense best I could. Hope it worked!
