This is one of those things that makes you feel old. Some movie publicists tell me that Thursday is the 25th anniversary of an important movie, "Red Dawn," which depicts a Soviet Communist invasion of America and a band of American teens--the "Wolverines"--who heroically fight them off. (IMDB differs and says it was released on August 10, 1984, so I'll repost on this, again, then.)
American Cinemathique sent me word that the organization will be marking "Red Dawn's" 25th anniversary with a special showing and discussion at the historic, restored Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, on Thursday Night at 7:30 p.m. So if you live in the Los Angeles area, this is a great opportunity to see this excellent movie

MacGyver was cheesey too, but it was good televison, it was just that era. Still a GOOD movie, who cares if it was “cheese”!
Are you kidding? Nobody got a scratch, much less died on "The A-Team." An if you paid attention, there were warnings about gun control and shifting alliances in "Red Dawn."
AVENGE ME!!!!!
If a 3rd Party is Born out of the disparage and Tea Parties I know what animal mascot should the conservatives select! The Wolverine! The Conservatives are fighting a partisan battle with the powers that be. If you don’t believe it, just ask Miss California!
I actually saw a WOLVERINES sign at one of the televised Tea Parties.
Well, you just lost Ohio. :-)
Wolverines! Good movie. It’s really predictable how liberals decide if a movie is good or not: if it bashes America, the military, Christianity/Christian morality, or families it’s “edgy” and “provocative” and “original” no matter how cliche it is. If it portrays them in a positive light it’s jingoistic, unsophisticated, lowbrow, etc.
Perhaps by the Hollywierd elites and "Progressives" who think movies must push the liberal agenda to be considered worthwhile.
But he is not underrated by his fans and fans of movies he made that tell a story and entertain without attempting to brainwash the audience with leftist claptrap.
Red Dawn entered the scene as a political/militaristic fantasy of an attemped socialist conquest of America but we now see that it was a harbinger of the attacks being made against the Republic today. The socialists aren't using AK47's against us (yet) but their goals are the same as was Strelnikov's in the movie.
“I thought Road House was a great B movie though.”
Nothing beats a good trachea-ripping scene.
“Whats John Milius up to these days?”
I think he was involved in the HBO series “Rome” not too long ago.
Other than that, probably yelling and shooting things.
Darth Zero is already well into the Darkside, and he is really breaking into a gallop.
I agree. “Point Break” was a good movie.
About a year or two ago, I read that they were considering doing a sequel...something along the line that Bode (Swayze) didn’t drown at the end of the first movie. He comes back to the US and resumes bank robberies and other extreme sports. That puts him on a collision course with Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), who’s still an FBI agent.
Indeed.
Thanks for the ping.
Road House is involved in my choice of screen names.
When I bought my first boat I spent a great deal of time trying to come up with a fitting name. The best boat names should have at least three meanings.
The boat I bought was blue and I hated going back to work on Monday. In addition, my days as a club/mobile DJ made me want a name that tied in with music as well. I really liked the Roadhouse soundtrack and the Bob Seger cover of the old Fats Domino tune "Blue Monday" and one day it struck me that Blue Monday would be a great boat name. When I signed up for FR bluemondayskipper was born.
Over the years I added a series of runabouts named Blues Cruz (the kids were young and loved the "Blues Clues" TV show, it was blue, it belonged to the crew of "Blue Monday" and we used it to cruise); The next boat was "Deja Blue" (looked a lot like "Blues Cruz", but bigger) and finally "Deja Blue All Over Again" (another from the same builder that looks like the others).
A few years ago I sold Blue Monday and got a bigger, wider boat (50' x 14'). In keeping with the three meaning requirement (it's big and fat, embodies excess consumption and follows Blue Monday), in late winter of 2007 (February 20, 2007 to be exact), my wife came up with the name for the current boat: "Fat Tuesday".
I'll be keeping this one for the forseeable future and when it's eventually replaced the kids will be gone. Our working name for big boat #3 is "Hump Day" (you can figure the meaning for yourself) LOL
That’s a great story, thanks.
Snicker
At this point, I'm waiting for Blu-Ray. And the Amazon reviewer ("Jim Emerson") is a moronic pinhead. IMHO.
