Did President Obama leave off a few zeroes when he ordered federal agencies to trim $100 million from their budgets?
No, that's not a typo: Obama actually asked for spending "efficiencies" in department budgets totaling $100 million.
That's "million" -- with an "m."
No wonder there's a "confidence gap," as Obama himself put it yesterday, in terms of the public's view of his team's handling of budget issues. That kind of sum, after all, is less than a rounding error in most federal funding lines.
Indeed, it amounts to 0.0027 percent of the $3.6 trillion budget.
Make no mistake: Obama's not asking for cuts of $100 mil from each department -- which would also be negligible. He's looking at a cumulative $100 million -- across the entire federal budget.
And this, after he signed one piece of legislation for $787 billion and another for $410 billion -- and then introduced a record $3.6 trillion federal budget.
(By contrast, Mayor Bloomberg has chopped 15 percent -- about $3.1 billion -- from current-year spending in the city budget; he's also called for as much as 4 percent more from city agencies.)
Let's face it: Federal spending was out of control even before Obama took office. His plans for massive outlays -- in both the short and long term -- are, frankly, reckless.

Actualy, there’s method to this madness. It’s how ACORN burns ballots.
Obama is starting to create an atmosphere of weaning and genocide by constraint inside his agencies, ever so timid, because he knows he cannot pay them as promised.
He’s pulling a cute Michael Jackson pedo meek act.
trim $100 million from their budgets
Like a Fart in the wind.
oooh, hot damn! I saved a nickle yesterday!
At what point does he become a caricature of himself?
Next, he could start wearing sweaters in the white house and brag about saving money by turning down the thermostat in the white house.
uh oh, that’s been done already.
The big difference between zero and carter is that zero is dumber and I didn’t think that was even possible.
I think you’re right. Can you imagine Hyman Rickover making a protegé out of Zer0? Me neither.
When you can just print the stuff, what difference does it make anyway? Easy come, easy go.
The best explanation I have hears is that this is like a family with a $3600 monthly budget deciding to tighten their belts by cutting a penny of spending each month.
I love the idea one cabinet official proposed - “we can start buying our office supplies in bulk.”
What do they do normally - send out a clerk to get a box of paper clips or a ream of paper every time they run out? Sheesh.
It truly boggles the mind.
I think he is convinced that we don't know the difference in words like, "millions", "billions" and "trillions".
Yes, that is good.
And Brazilians.
Yes, LOL.
Only a hundred million? And which body orifice did he pull THAT number from?
