From Instapundit:

UPDATE: Reader Jeff Scott writes: “Since the President is selling this as a typical household cutting costs, 100 million dollars of a nominal 1 trillion dollar budget is equivalent of a family making $75,000 forgoing two cups of coffee IN A YEAR. Some budget choices.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: A reader emails: “Cutting $100 milllion from the budget is easy, just lock John Murtha in a closet for a week.”

Not going to Chicago in your 747 on Mother’s Day should take care of that.

if you made $100,000 a year, it would equal a $2.70 per year pay cut...

Or like this: What if you were offered a five dollar off coupon on a $200,000 house. Would you let that tiny discount influence your buying judgment? Is it even significant at all?

S&P 500 848.04 -21.56 -2.48%

U.S. Markets close in 5 hours and 59 minutes.

This is the equivalent of a Husband and Wife cutting their $3,500 monthly budget by ONE PENNY.

Please don't exaggerate. It's the equivalent of cutting that budget by a FULL DIME. That's real belt-tightening. /s

since the fed now has sucked up 28.3% of GDP, if they would cut THAT by 2.8%, we’d have a good starting point....

To put it in perspective, it would be like:

cutting less than 3 cents from a $10 movie ticket.
cutting less than 30 cents from a $100 restaurant bill.
cutting less than 3 dollars from a $1,000 vacation

Is there actually a ‘progressive’ playbook they go by?

Wagner Act.. Card Check
Cap and Trade...NRA AAA
Stimulus spending....WPA

This is creepy!

He wants to cut defense.

Notice how the washington compost refers to the opposition as “small government conservatives”. This is another divisive label.

There are many social libs who are fiscally sound (ie. conservative).

What a joke, $100 million is 1/35000 of a $3.5 trillion budget.

Looks a lot bigger if it's plotted on a log scale.

"What a joke, $100 million is 1/35000 of a $3.5 trillion budget."

Indeed -- but it gets played on all the news reports as some significant tough executive decision.

Most Americans won’t know the difference; and it will make for a feel-good sound bit.

Bush and Hastert do not hold office. I am always amazed that some Freepers would rather blame Bush than Obama, when it is Obama and the democrats that have quadrupled government spending...lol. Pelosi and Reid have also spent more in the last two years than the republicans did the whole time they had ‘control’ of both houses. I am not making excuses for republican spending mind you...but am starting to get a little sick of the ‘mime’..”They both did it”. It’s like comparing spending $100.00 bucks to spending $100,000 bucks and calling it ‘even’.
