AK’s laws are similar to AZ’s law of political replacements.

There was a vacancy in the AK Senate. Palin had to appoint someone for the vacancy, but it had to be the same party as the previous incumbent. In this case its replacing a Dem with a Dem. AK Dems wanted a Leftward moonbot. Palin wanted someone who could have polite discussion with. The legislative session is at an end. The budget has been passed. The Legislators decided to go on a pork binge for federal stimulus money. The only hope for fiscal sanity is for Palin to use the line item veto. As for Wayne Ross, perhaps Palin could recess appoint him.

From what I heard she should not. Are the criticisms of him bunk?

In AZ I think Napalitano could have appoint any “registered Republican” with approval from no one to fill McCain’s seat. Likley she prepared by having some rat switch registration.
