A district judge on Friday sentenced a Mexican national who entered the country illegally to 15 years in prison for forcing his way into an apartment and assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
A Lubbock County jury on Tuesday convicted Julian Vasquez of indecency with a child for the July 2008 assault.
Vasquez forced his way into a unit in the Cora Apartments in the 300 block of Avenue U after the girl opened the door when he knocked.
Vasquez pushed the girl onto a bed, ripped her shirt, undid her bra and touched her breasts, according to testimony.
She fought him off and hid in the bathroom with the door locked while she called 911.
Officers arrived and found Vasquez at the bathroom door.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Friday testified Vasquez was an illegal immigrant and would be deported when released from prison.
Once he is returned to Mexico, there is no way for U.S. authorities to track him or compel him to register as a sex offender in Mexico, the agent testified.
In closing remarks, prosecutor Jennifer Bassett urged Judge Cecil Puryear to consider the forceful and physical nature of the assault and the lasting effect it will have on the girl, as well as the fact that if he is released early from prison, there is nothing to stop him from re-entering the country without registering as a sex offender and offending again.
Jesse Mendez, Vasquez's attorney, said Vasquez was drunk when he committed the assault and asked the judge to take that into consideration.
He also said the cost of incarcerating illegal immigrants who commit crimes is an undue burden on the state.
As a result of a 2007 law, Vasquez must serve at least half his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
"This is an appropriate sentence for a stranger who broke into a house to molest a child," Bassett said. "And this is a case where the effects on this child will not be forgotten by her, and this is a serious crime in Lubbock County."
Mendez met with Vasquez for a few minutes after the sentence before his client was returned to jail.
"I respect the decision that was made," Mendez said.

Just put him to sleep and be done with it.
He’ll get his revenge on the permanently terrified 28 year old woman.
Deport him but before you do, castrate him and return him to Mexico.
>Just put him to sleep and be done with it.
Sleep? I would have said death.
“This is an appropriate sentence for a stranger who broke into a house to molest a child”
An appropriate sentence is a life sentence of agony, just like the victim got.
to a liberal he is the victim.
they are that demented.
Just doing the molesting that American perverts are too lazy to do.
Man, I must be backward and ignorant, here.
USA taxpayer money is spent to try an illegal alien and then house and feed him?
Tax payer money spent on a criminal here illegally?
Oh, well. As long as they put in the Verizon cable in my neighborhood.....
I can tell you right now what they will say.
They will point out cultural differences between the two countries and say he just didn’t know any better. In his culture 13 is old enough and women are objects. He did as he was raised to do.
They refuse to acknowledge that, in fact, there are ways in which some cultures are better than others.
Secure the borders.
the girl opened the door when he knocked
Do NOT open doors to strangers.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Friday testified Vasquez was an illegal immigrant and would be deported when released from prison.
How long has he been here and how many times has he been deported?
the fact that if he is released early from prison, there is nothing to stop him from re-entering the country without registering as a sex offender and offending again.
Hellooooo! Secure the border.
Vasquez was drunk when he committed the assault and asked the judge to take that into consideration
That should have gotten him 15 more.
the cost of incarcerating illegal immigrants who commit crimes is an undue burden on the state.
Secure the border... oh, sorry, I'm repeating myself.
This is an appropriate sentence for a stranger who broke into a house to molest a child
Okey dokey, but that's only part of the problem. What about sentencing him for public intoxication or DUI and crossing over into the US illegally? Of course this wouldn't have happened if we had SECURED THE BORDERS!
I hope he gets placed in general prison population, but the prison system shields bastards like this one from gp.
“As a result of a 2007 law, Vasquez must serve at least half his sentence before he is eligible for parole.”
If it's 18 years, he'll serve 9 at most and be paroled.
Why the hell isn't he castrated and deported back to Mexico or where ever he came from ILLEGALLY ? I don't mind absorbing his castration bill. We could look up Lorana Bobit and ask her to cut if off. I'd bet she's be happy to do it for “free”.

Happens all the time in Phoenix:
Apartment tenants held hostage, robbed
KTAR
April 19th, 2009
Several men armed with handguns entered an apartment near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road Friday night robbing and sexually abusing the tenants, according to the Phoenix Police.
Officers believe two men entered the apartment and took seven people hostage. Once inside, the robbers summoned several more men to come in.
During the robbery, police say one victim was sexually assaulted and a 14-year-old girl was sexually abused. (snip)
Castillo and Montoya told investigators they were in the United States illegal[ly]. Police are still trying to verify their immigration status with ICE.

If ICE had done their job, this wouldn't have happened. Interesting how ICE has to always be called in after the fact. Also interesting is how fast illegals fess up to their status knowing they'll get off scot free with a bus ride home or a way lighter sentence.
The only tax payer money should be spent on the rope for him. Or the helicopter ride to Mexico, sky drop.
Ping!
