WASHINGTON (CNN) Meghan McCain warned a group of gay Republicans Saturday that there was "a war brewing in the Republican Party" a war between the past and the future.
"Most of the old school Republicans are scared s***less of that future," she told a gathering of the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of gay and lesbian party members.
The 24-year-old daughter of former GOP presidential candidate John McCain pushed back against critics upset over her comments to CNN that she wanted President Obama to succeed, and played down her recent headline-grabbing feuds with conservative commentators Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham. "I did not expect my frustration with what I perceive to be overly partisan and divisive Republicans to cause a national incident," she said.
"I feel too many Republicans want to cling to past successes
I think we're seeing a war brewing in the Republican Party," she said. "But it is not between us and Democrats. It is not between us and liberals. It is between the future and the past

It’s all part of the conservative crack-up. Meghan is not the solution, she is part of the problem here.
We either unite the right, or get defeated.
Do they really think we don't know who our own idiots are?
I feel too many Republicans want to cling to past successes
“Can she mean anything else but the Reagan Revolution?”
Reagan, Newt, and GWB. All victory based on the Reagan formula of strong family values + tax-cutting fiscal conservatism + strong national defense.
If our future doesnt belong with freedom, its not worth fighting for.
” Cant be Bushs slim victories. He was no different than her pops.”
Come now. If McCain was as good or reliable a conservative as GWB, he’d be a much less annoying RINO.
You’ve heard of Wonkette.
Meghan is our own ... RINO-ette.
I am glad to be of service as your (former) Hipster Gen-X translator.
It comes from the liberal mindset that stereotypes Republican conservatives as flannel & boots wearing rednecks who listen to country music. This just reveals what she has been immersed in, and it's not conservatism. She is strictly about appearances, just like any other liberal.
If Meghan McCain ever dared venture into a mosh pit (yeah right. as if.), she would not emerge without a Doc Marten implanted in her ass. What a poser.
“I do know that it is a badge of honor amongst those who have been through our nation’s liberal colleges in the last 15 or so years to prove themselves, “Straight, not Square” if you’re hetero.”
That’s the point. She’s trying too hard to be “COOL” and “HIP”.
They should just go and get it over with and re-register as Democrats. They are not going to be with us anyways when Push comes to Shove in this country, in the historic effort that is coming in regaining our Freedoms from the Usurpers, the Obamatrons and their Fascist like. In this sense, they are truly Tories—and are totally useless in the New Republican Party which I and millions other envision.
Her positions actually seem to mirror her dad’s positions.
She says alot about her father, by this behavior.
“Well, he turned out not to be more touchy-feely in a lot of ways - lucky for America. Just ask any Libtard and they will tell you that there has never been a more brutal dictator than George Bush.
If an American president like Bush doing his job and keeping America safe is a “brutal dictator” - I would like to see what their definition of a run-of-the-mill average American president is - Barney the Purple Dinosaur?”
The funny thing is that Meghan’s Dad would be JUST AS HATED, no matter what things he did to bend over for the liberals.
GWB got nothing but a bloody stump when he reached out to be bipartisan.
“In this sense, they are truly Toriesand are totally useless in the New Republican Party which I and millions other envision.”
The one valid point Meghan makes is that the GOP is disconnected with youth voters ...
Does that new republican party appeal to young people?
If not, then how do we do it without becoming RINO-squish sellouts?
Such a sore loser she is. Just join MSNBC as an “analyst” already and get it overwith.
Really, is there anyone in the world dumber than Meghan McCain? I’d frankly rather hear Paris Hilton’s opinions on matters of public policy.
What a complete fool. I imagine the press is paying more attention to her than to Steele or a lot of other people who actually have some sort of standing in the party. The sooner the McCains take a hike, the better.
With a Reagan-esque leader, one committed to certain bedrock principles. Young People of America LOVED that man, and would have crawled over broken glass for him. Strong, telegencic, unapologetic and firm leadership will attract young people in any society, even with solid conservative principles in place despite liberalism all around us (especially on the campuses). If finessed correctly, it can even be marketed as a REVOLUTION by young people against the LIES that their COLLEGE ESTABLISHMENT through liberal professors, is feeding them. I think this is where the tipping point is, and where the weaknesses can be exploited.
Washington would rather deflect Federal criticism into Intra-Republican bickering...than deal with the rapidly growing reality of the national Washington-American divide...
Aren’t conservatives the base of the party - from which the majority of MONEY flows?
I have no love for Meghan McCain, but the personal insults and profanity on this thread sounds like it came from DU. I thought conservatives were better than this.
And your family is part of the PAST!
Been there, done that, have the t-shirt. Don't want any part of another McCain anything, period. Had to hold my nose in the last election. Never again.
Meghan McCain’s Book Sold to Hyperion For High Six Figures
John McCain’s 24-year-old daughter Meghan has a book deal! Sources say Hyperion has prevailed over at least three other publishers in an auction that began earlier this week, following a round of meetings during which the in-your-face young conservative and the literary agent she shares with her father, Sterling Lord Literistic president Flip Brophy, discussed a number of possible approaches to the book with editors around town.
Several sources said the advance Ms. McCain will receive from Hyperion, which is owned by the Disney Company, is in the high six figures.
While we havent quite nailed down what Ms. McCains book will be about
it will probably have something to do with the future of the Republican party, and how it must change to attract the votes of modern young people.
Ms. McCain has flexed her essayist muscles on The Beast in pieces like Why Republicans Don’t Get the Internet and Looking for Mr. Far Right.
This will be Ms. McCain’s second book. Her first, a biographical picture book about her father titled My Dad, John McCain, was published last September through the Aladdin imprint of Simon & Schuster.
