“Why Do Intellectuals Oppose Capitalism? “

Simple. It is part of human nature to want to distinguish oneself, somehow. To many of those who would call themselves ‘intellectuals’, that which best distinguishes them from the rest of humanity is their perceived ‘superior intelligence and/or education’. One of the great equalizers in a capitalist society, however, is that anyone can get rich, and it’s often not the ‘intellectuals’ who do so. That others in society are more financially successful than them puts a dent in the self perceived superiority of ‘intellectuals’, and takes away from their ‘specialness’. So ‘intellectuals’ resent successful capitalists, and crusade against them essentially because by doing so it allows them to at least attempt to regain their ‘specialness’ in society. It’s all about ego.
