Obama Names Two Officials and Vows to Cut Waste (LOL Alert)
New York Times ^ | April 18, 2009 | Sheryl Gay Stolberg

President Obama said Saturday that he will soon announce “the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective,” and used his weekly radio address to name two new high-level officials to assist him in that effort.

The president said he would use his Cabinet meeting on Monday — the first time the full Cabinet will meet — to ask department and agency heads to come up with specific proposals for cutting their budgets by eliminating inefficient programs.

“If we’re going to rebuild our economy on a solid foundation, we need to change the way we do business in Washington,” Mr. Obama said. “We need to restore the American people’s confidence in their government — that it is on their side, spending their money wisely, to meet their families’ needs.”

Mr. Obama has made accountability and transparency cornerstones of his domestic policy, and he pledged on Saturday that his administration will carefully rethink the way government works. He is hardly the first president to do so; most presidents vow to eliminate waste and inefficiency in government, only to run into obstacles on Capitol Hill who want to keep the very programs the propose to eliminate.

No thanks. I don't need your help.

Sure I believe it. I believe it because Gore’s “Reinventing Government” program worked so well the first time they did this.

This is direct from the Hugo Chavez play book. Say all sorts of stuff, when it doesn't come true blame others. I note that there was reunion of sorts yesterday, when the two Marxist comrades met up and had a great yuck fest.

“the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective,”

Something tells me that most of the wasteful and ineffective programs identified will involve the Army, Navy, Air-Force and Marines.

He might be able to reduce waste faster if he hired a thousand friends to examine the problem instead of just two.

Now you've done it.

You've managed to insult both Lamas and Ding Dongs in one fell swoop.

Wow! He’s going to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid? That would be a FANTASTIC start!

The elimination of dozens of wasteful USG programs won’t solve very much. About half of the FY 2009 $3.2 trillion budget is spent on entitlement programs, another 700 billion on DOD, and $400 billion to service the debt. This doesn’t leave very much left to cut of any consequence. Of course the Dems want to cut defense and propose a 10% cut for FY-2010. More smoke and mirrors for a gulible, uninformed public.

The salaries of the two two new high-level officials and their staff will more than suck up any savings from the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective.

As a matter of fact - if you use Washington economic theory - Zero can claim an immediate savings if he just doesnt hire these two new high level executives.

Geez... how many times does he think he is going to get away with saying this?

“We need to restore the American peoples confidence in their government that it is on their side, spending their money wisely, to meet their families needs”.

Now is this one of those things we can opt-out if we want?

President Obama said Saturday that he will soon announce “the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective,”

First target: U.S. Census Bureau

The national count will be outsourced to Acorn for slightly less money.
