Dutch forces free pirate captives

Dutch commandos have freed 20 people who had been captured by Somali pirates after the raiders attacked a Greek-managed tanker, Nato says.

The captives, Yemeni fishermen, were freed as the Dutch forces captured seven pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

They were aboard a pirate "mother ship" from which smaller craft attack commercial vessels.

The captured pirates are alleged to have attacked the tanker using assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

A Dutch warship from the Nato force responded to a distress call from the tanker and saw the pirates fleeing toward a Yemeni fishing trawler, Nato spokesman Alexandre Santos Fernandes said.

Nato troops boarded the vessel and freed the 20 Yemenis who, he says, had been held hostage since Sunday.

The pirates were set free, the Associated Press news agency reports, because under Dutch law they could not be held at sea under the circumstances in which they were captured.

agreed. strange that this criminals don´t stop attacking ships when the worst thing that could happen to them is that they will have to try it again on an other day.

Don’t get so upset about this. This is not a big issue. It’s maddening, yes. It’s a symptom of global insanity, yes.

But from now on, when you read any story about pirates, think of the pirate in the White House, the one who’s holding the US Constitution hostage.

That’s something we should all focus on, not on the trivial matter of piracy off the coast of Somalia.

Yes, trivial. Compared to what peg-leg-Obama is doing to our country.

Trivial.

We manufacture the rope.

We tie it in a noose.

We throw the other side over a tree limb and secure.

We put our head through the noose.

What more can we do to destroy ourselves and to grant power to the evil, low-life scumbags of the earth?

Please. They are NOT pirates. They are merely Somali Sea Scouts, trying to add more merit badges to their sashes.

*lol* this reminds me about our rules of engagement (when i was in the military) “guarding” the border. rules of engagement for encountered persons. First cry STOP, (If he/she don´t stop) cry again STOP. After that a “STOP or i will shoot follows” Well and then if they don´t stop... guess what? you are allowed to fire one shot in the air and then you are allowed (if they are still running, and you feel like) to follow them or just watch them disappear
because that´s all for what you are there :-)

After belatedly reading the post I withdraw my comment about the Dutch doing their part. This is total idiocy.
