While President Obama has indicated he's not willing to expend any political capital to try to re-new the ban on semi-automatic assault weapons that expired in 2004 -- despite pleading from Mexican President Calderón that he do so -- he did announce a step this week that is meeting with opposition from the powerful National Rifle Association -- an international gun treaty that the Senate
The Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and other Related Items -- best known by its Spanish acronym CIFTA -- was adopted by the Organization of American States 12 years ago, in 1997. President Clinton sent it to the Senate the following year, and CIFTA hasn't been heard from since.
"As President Calderón and I discussed, I am urging the Senate in the United States to ratify an inter-American treaty known as CIFTA to curb small arms trafficking that is a source of so many of the weapons used in this drug war," said President Obama in Mexico City on Thursday.
The treaty makes the unauthorized manufacture and exporting of firearms illegal and calls for nations in this hemisphere to establish a process for information-sharing among different countries' law enforcement divisions to stop the smuggling of arms, to adopt strict licensing requirements, and to make firearms easier to trace.
On Thursday evening, the response from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. -- who has worked hard to establish a reputation as a supporter of gun rights -- was fairly muted.
We must work with Mexico to curtail the violence and drug trafficking on Americas southern border, and must protect Americans Second Amendment rights," Reid said in an uncharacteristically unsupportive statement. "I look forward to working with the president to ensure we do both in a responsible way.

What needs to be said is that a bunch of wannabee tyrants don’t want to contend with any armed peons!
calls for nations in this hemisphere to establish a process for information-sharing,not only does one need to hide money, guns, bible now it’s don’t talk to loud.
This argument has been thoroughly debunked by his own BATFE and other law enforcement (hinging on the weapons chosen to be traced by BATF vs. the whole lot) - as well as the reports of fully auto weapons (non US) and grenade launchers - the bulk of the weaponry - coming from other Latin American countries.
Again, it was the liberal news media along with Greta on Fox that produced the first misleading reports which is now what the masses understand, rather than what actually happened. Greta, to her credit, did a follow up to correct the original report. None of the other MSM did, of course. Government by consensus rather than fact.
Obama is an unqualified menace. He must be blocked politically from implementing his social agenda.
The NRA should get involved in the fight to force this tyrant to release his birth records.
If he is not a natural born citizen, he can be removed from office. Biden is too stupid and incomeptent to effectively orchestrate a socialist agenda.

Hear, hear! EVERYTHING the Kenyan does should be challenged and blocked by every congressman with any speck of conservatism left.
I can see where this “treaty” would outlaw the importation of ammunition, new or surplus, from outside the country.
I wouldn’t trust Obama or any pol any more than I could throw them...

Once they disarm our country it will be easier to fill the mass graves with capitalists who resist the new world order.
They do not have enough people to disarm our Nation... or enough coffins.

This fight would be in the Senate as that is where treaties are ratified. Given the number of RATS there and the absence of backbone from the other side, it will probably pass if proposed.
Three months into this nightmare regime, and counting.

“The Gun Lobby”—ooga booga!!
That reminds me to join the NRA for the first time. Something I never thought I’d be doing. Thanks Jake and Senlen.
Correction. Obama the zero is opposed by Americans of both parties. He’s supported by radical leftists everywhere.
I am convinced many Democrats did not realize or believe zero would be as bad as he is turning out to be. They bought into the anti-Bush rhetoric and lies constantly fed to them by a willing media/press.
As an infamous pastor once said, “the chickens are coming home to roost.”
But WE knew, didn’t we? But it’s cold comfort to be in the vanguard of knowledge here on FR sometimes, isn’t it?
They better consider what their own losses will be, before firing up that backhoe. After all, this administration just announced that everyone with military experience is a domestic enemy.
"Just remember to bring one thing.... a good supply of body bags."
Amen brother!

A Mexican Uniform near you wants you to have no firearms. Obama is buying time. He does not want to freak people out, ie. reveal he is first fashioning a Mexico in the US itself along a border of “class” distinctions, with some getting amnesty, others not, in a classical Chicago inner city playbook.
