WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration says it will not appeal a federal court ruling that prohibits carrying loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.
Instead, the Interior Department says it will conduct a full environmental review of an earlier policy that allowed concealed, loaded guns in parks and refuges.

She ‘banned’ it based on the environmental impact. tar and feathers baby
Did anyone expect anything different? The term “environmental impact” will become a common cop-out for this administration trying to both take steps toward disarming law-abiding citizens, and pander to the eco-nutcase left.
They probably see this as a double win.
What do they think a traveler is going to do, put the damn gun under a rock just outside the Parks, and be sure to go out the same way?
I am law abiding... but this is ridiculous. When I travel, I pack a firearm. I’ve never had a problem and I never will, period.
This makes national parks and wildlife refuges extremely dangerous for casual hikers and campers and extremely desirable for meth cookers, road lizards, pot farmers and other potentially hazardous types.

Well, until “travel with a firearm” becomes illegal...
Or maybe “unauthorized travel”/”traveling w/o papers”.
Yeah, the EPA and Obama just patted each other on the back for a job well done.
You can still have your gun, it just can’t be loaded. At least that’s how it is in our Alaska National Parks, which is 70% of the land mass in Alaska. We just wear an ammo belt and carry the gun separate. You aren’t typically hanging out where grizzly bears are, but if you see one you can “lock & load” for protection and deal with the Feds later.
It's coming, folks. Soon...
Uh huh. And you know how long these "full" reviews can take. I'm guessing that this particular review will take full account of anything that might be ascribed to the presence of such weapons - robbery, for example, despite the fact that the robbers are criminals - and resolutely ignore any use of them involving self-defense. Most such reviews by anti-gun zealots do that. Should a fellow blow a bear away in the defense of his family, for example, that will count as "gun violence."
The final report will conclude that we are much safer now that the victims are unarmed and that we ought to keep it that way. I'd love to be wrong about this but we've seen it all before.
no need for me to go the national parks or support funding them
They’d need probable cause to stop and search you ... here in Washington on isolated trails it’s not a problem ... we have more national forests than parks ... you can carry in a national park .... too bad those cute cougars don’t know the difference ....
Okay, I do unload it when I am in out of town Parks... but, well, I have to drive through a National Park to get from one end of my county to another. Of course, I just worry about bad guys, but not those Monster Bears you hardy folks live with.
I do love your state.. a bit too cold for me. I hope to come up there for a fishing charter someday.... might even bring my boat up through the “inside channel”.
So wait! The Cosntitution does not apply in National Parks?! Guess I won’t be going there then — at least not thru the gate. ;-)
What effect does a loaded, carried but unfired firearm have on the environment?
If you have to fire it, a few ounces of lead is small potatoes compared to be a victom of crime or animal attach.
If this were narrowly tailored, such as “no plinking” or “no lead shot” they might have a chance on environmental issues.
But banning possession of a gun carrying bullets that are going to be carried out of the park intact is ridiculous.
“This is not at all surprising. But it probably is a moot point as this regime (sic) will soon seek to ban ALL guns in ‘civilian’ hands, practically everywhere. The few remaining which are allowed will be under strict government scrutiny and control. It’s coming, folks. Soon...”
And that’s when a hell of a lot of American citizens will start shooting. The left (i.e., the vast majority of the Democrat party, and ALL of its leadership) are sure behaving like they want to see a hot revolution in this country. They are apt to get their wish.
National parks are reserved for pot growers and smugglers, hasn’t anyone figured that out yet.
