Sacha Baron Cohen is a fraud, says senior Republican tricked into bedroom (Ron Paul)
Daily Mail ^ | 17th April 2009

After the huge success of Sacha Baron Cohen's films Ali G In Da House and Borat, you'd think people would have wised up to the comedian's disguises.

But it appears not everyone recognises the comedian when he's dressed up as his third alter-ego, gay Austrian fashion reporter Bruno.

Texas congressman Ron Paul, who was a Republican candidate for the 2008 presidential election, was left fuming after he was unwittingly tricked into a hotel room with Cohen's Bruno character.

The right-wing politician was tricked into being a target of seduction by Bruno last summer by posing as an economic reporter.

After Paul briefly appeared in the trailer for Cohen's forthcoming film Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America For The Purpose Of Making Heterosexual Male, he realised he would have to explain himself to voters.

Speaking on America's ABC radio this week, angry Paul condemned Cohen for lying and accused him of 'fraud'.

During an interview with presenter Curtis Sliwa, Paul was asked how he ended up in a hotel room in such a compromising situation.

He said: 'We were in a studio situation, I wasn't invited into a hotel room. There were lots of lights and blaze and commotion and they said we better get in this back room which had been fixed up as a bedroom.

'So there was some dishonesty getting me into the interview, I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics. That didn't turn out that way.

'By the time he (Cohen) started pulling his pants down, I was like what on earth is going on here and I ran out of the room. This interview had ended.'

In what is sure to be hilarious viewing in the upcoming film, Paul is stunned when Bruno starts to disrobe in front of him.

Promise a pol “face time” and they home in like a heat seeking missle.

Now I know why they call them camera whores.

CURTIS SLIWA: Well, okay. You ran out. But, did you actually see the original Borat film where he pulls these kinds of stunts?

DR. RON PAUL: No, no. Movies I used to see are Sound of Music. Tonight, I was sitting here watching Gone with the Wind. So, I don't watch that kind of stuff. And I understand he makes a lot of money. But, if he makes a lot of money — I have to permit the market to do this. I don't like the idea that he lies his way into an interview. That to me, is fraud. But, the fact that he has raunchy material and people buy into it — it's sort of sad that that is a reflection of our culture. To me, it's a real shame that people are going to reward him with millions and millions of dollars for being so crass.

I wonder if Sacha Baron Cohen would appreciate the humor in one of his “victims” just beating the holy s**t out of him.

I don't mind humor that is for the fun of it... this Cohen punk has a mean spirit about his humor; it is not intended to be fun in a humorous way... it is meant to be angry... something I don't care to see.

I'd like to see the tables turned on this punk with his darkest fears exposed to the world so he can see how it feels.

He's a big guy (6'3"). I don't think too many people would want to mess with him.

This is what Hollywood punks are good for - entertainment. Don’t care about their opinions on anything.

I don’t agree that he deserves this kind of nastiness.

It's sad that anyone hates Paul enough to think that he does deserve it. It's even sadder that anyone on this site feels that way.

In my opinion Sacha Baron Cohen belongs in jail.

If he can’t be put there under current law, a new law should be written to cover his chronically abusive antics.

I know quite a few who probably wouldn't mind it. He's undoubtedly careful who he picks on. Ron Paul doesn't strike me as much of a threat.

Fraud? Sounds like Ron Paul is just stupid. Anyway, I like Ron Paul for some of his positions, but that was a stupid thing for him to do. Getting tricked???

Obviously not Borat which was hillarious. I only saw the dinner table scene that someone had at work and it was funny.

Have to admit I wouldn't mind someone like Napalitano get trapped in Cohen's net. Problem is...he traps a lot of people who look like they've never harmed anyone a day in their life.

Cohen is creepy.
