Raúl Castro: Cuba ready 'to discuss everything' with U.S.
CNN ^ | 4/17/2009

(CNN) -- The Cuban government, long the object of a U.S. economic blockade, is prepared to meet with the Obama administration, Cuba's leader said.

We've told the North American government, in private and in public, that we are prepared, wherever they want, to discuss everything -- human rights, freedom of the press, political prisoners -- everything, everything, everything that they want to discuss," Cuban President Raúl Castro said Thursday at a summit of leftist Latin American leaders in Venezuela.

The response came days after President Obama lifted all restrictions on the ability of American citizens to visit relatives in Cuba as well as to send them remittances. Travel restrictions for Americans of non-Cuban descent will remain in place.

This week's move represents a significant shift in a U.S. policy that had remained largely unchanged for nearly half a century. The U.S. government instituted the embargo three years after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959.

In Mexico City for meetings with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Obama offered a carrot and a stick to Havana.

My dad was stationed there during the Korean War. He LOVED Cuba. He still talks about it for hours at a time.

No, Raul will have significant disagreements with the Obanamation.

For Raul is a socialist... while the Obamanation is more of a Stalinist. If anything, Raul will probably be labeled a ‘right-wing nutcase’ by the Obamatrons.

Hmmm. Like one party rule, free speech, freedom for all political prisoners, private property and privatization of Cuba's extensive state enterprises, free elections, amnesty and monetary compensation for all who have fled Cuba, an accounting of criminality of the Castro regime...?

These people do catch on quick to the Obama way of doing things though. Talk the talk. No one's listening, and what you do doesn't matter in the least.

What is somewhat hilarious is Oliver Stone is a major Castro lefty suck up but he wrote the script for Brian DePalma’s remake of Scarface with Al Pacino. Al overacts but his acting in the Godfather was great work. His Mariel boatlift Cuban character Antonio “Tony” Montana was way over the top but was also very good.

Hilariously - Tony in the movie makes a pretty good arguement against Oliver Stone’s pal Castro and communism.

Tony Montana: (referring to live in Castro’s Cuba):

“You know I eat octopus three times a day? I got f*****g octopus coming out of my ears. I got f*****g Russian shoes my feet’s coming through. How’d you like that? You want me to stay there and do nothing?”

I tried to edit a certain word but in the movie it served as noun, verb, adverb, adjective, etc, etc.

I wonder if Oliver Stone wrote that or Al Pacino adlibbed it. Does not sound like Stone would say something so harsh about communism and Castro’s Cuba.

I guess with Obama we better start getting used to Octopus and doing nothing. I saw this morning in the WSJ that Oregon’s unemployment rate was over 12%!

Unemployment has not been this bad since.....1976...Jimmy Carter!

Money. Raul wants MONEY from obama. obama wants votes for 2010 and 2012.

I was talking to a couple of economists and they said free trade with cuba would be good for the US. They said Raul was a different person than his brother. But his brother is still in control from the sidelines even if that were true.

Then there are those who say Fidel was misunderstood by the US. I can only say his daughter who came here and wrote a book about his evil dictatorship says the US was correct about him. And the many who took their lives into their own hands to get here and away from Fidel for sure do not agree with that assesment.

Then the other day I hear Raul ranting at the US in the media.

Just open the casinos again and I’m there. I quit smoking, but the cigars may tempt me back again.

Ah, the joys of having a communist elpresidente, on both islands.

Yeah, several of us here pegged it. Raul got the green light to whip up a wish list to present to Her Heinous, who after all says our policy has been mistaken.

And EVERYTHING Poppa Oooo-Mao-Mao says or does must be seen as his campaign for 2012.
