Governor Rick Perry, who's enjoying being a darling of the tea party movement, signed the first bill of the 2009 legislative session into law this afternoon. But all the reporters wanted to talk about is the flurry of attention he's getting for allegedly supporting secession. The governor cleared things up, saying he never said Texas should secede.
Elise Hu: Do you really want to secede from the Union?
Perry: This is interesting that this has really kind of bubbled up, to uh... I refer people back to my statement, and I gotta a charge out of it. I was kinda thinking that, maybe the same people who hadn't been reading the constitution right were reading that article and they got the wrong impression about what I said.
Clearly, I stated that we have a great union. And Texas is part of a great union. I see no reason for that to change. I think that may not be the exact quote, but that is, in essence what I said.

Well he didn’t.
Don’t back down, you wuss!!!
Once Pandora is out of her box...it is tough to put her back in.
“Secede” now becomes something that comes into play...I guess a lot depends on what happens from here on out.
“Scedes” will not succeed.
The way I heard it was that he didn’t condone it but that he understood the sentiment.
That he understood the sentiment is scaring the left, which is good enough for me, for now.
That horse is now out of the barn.
You said — Dont back down, you wuss!!!

Back down from what? (and..., “that” is the key... :-) ...)
he said we could if we wanted.
thats not a call for it

Ummmm..., I think Lincoln succeeded quite well, actually...
He’s not.
What he said was that he could see a time when the people of Texas might want to secede but went on to say that it doesn’t mean they should.
You said — That horse is now out of the barn.

That horse may be out of the barn, but it’s an emaciated horse and one that won’t be going anywhere... LOL..
Lincoln saw to that, a long time ago...
Deo Vindice
Obama is NO Lincoln...
I think his statement would be *more accurately* portrayed as saying something like this...
I can see how some may want to secede, but I don’t think they should...
Go ahead and threaten secession, Governor! The First Amendment lets you say whatever you please. And nobody would blame Texas for considering it. Not even a little.
Please, make a bet!
Because the rest of the Union would LOVE to see what happens next! Will the feds FOLD (restore the Constitution), CALL (ignore you), or RAISE (then all sorts of fun will begin)?
Toss in a few chips, Governor! Please!
Somebody has to be the first to make a stand!
But Lincoln already did it, so there’s no need for another Lincoln... :-)
You’re barking up the wrong tree..., he never did it.... LOL...
It isn’t Lincoln’s army now.
The better chunk of America’s military personnel come from the former “Rebel” territory.
And people aren’t sweeping guns and ammo off the shelf just to hand it over to the Feds when they command so.
If I can see this from Canada, it’s obvious that the next decade is going to be very “interesting” in the ancient Chinese sense.
