Barack Obama's dog, Bo, has been given a book deal, just a day after entering the White House.
A deal has already been done to publish "Bo America's Commander In Leash", a children's book that is due to be released next week.
According to Mascot Books, the publisher, the book will follow "Bo on an exciting adventure as he learns all about the White House and experiences the traditions that make it such a special place."
The book will feature guest appearances by Mr Obama, his wife Michelle Obama, Senator Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden the Vice President. It has been written by Naren Aryal, founder of Mascot Books, and illustrated by Danny Moore, one of its employees.
Mr Aryal told the New York Times he and Mr Moore had been working on the project for about two months, leaving space for pictures of the dog, once it was chosen. He added that the Obamas' two daughters Sasha and Malia are not named in the book because he wanted to protect their privacy.
Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog, was given as a gift to the Obamas by Mr Kennedey. The senator has three of the breed himself.
As Bo was welcomed into the White House, the Kennel Club reported a 125 per cent increase in the number of people asking about the breed in recent months. It said it received 1,646 calls in the last five months about the breed, a rise from 730 calls for the same period the previous year.
Mr and Mrs Obama made $2.7 million (£1.8 million) last year. Nearly all of their earnings last year came from the president's own two best-selling books - Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope, which brought the Obamas nearly $2.5 million in royalties.

Let me guess, no ghostwriter, right?
Bo learns about socialism
Bo becomes part of Obama Youth Brigade, so should you!
“Arf! Arf!” Bo said back to the teleprompter, while wagging his tail happily.
Like we didn’t know that was coming.
One thing I object to no matter who or what is involving the kids in political reportage.
It’s wrong.
Will it be in Ebonics or just english?
And dogs too.
Yeah, don’t mention the kids names. No one knows that info. ?????
Senator Ted Kennedy made an important political endorsement Tuesday [January 2009]. Massachusetts' Senior Senator endorsed the Portuguese water dog as the perfect pet for the nation's new first family.
[snip]
"A Portuguese water dog is the perfect choice for first dog," Kennedy said in a written statement. "The Obama girls -- and their parents -- will love a Portuguese water dog. They're loyal, smart, loving and they became a real part of the family. And they definitely do not shed."
Senator Kennedy and wife Vicki have three Portuguese water dogs of their own. Sunny and Splash often accompany Kennedy to the Senate. "They love being around people and being part of the action," he said.
The Kennedy's just added a third Portuguese water dog to the family, a puppy named Captain Courageous or 'Cappy' for short. ..."

THE family of US president Barack Obama have chosen a Portuguese water dog to be the first pet.
In what was one of the White House's most tightly kept secrets, the Washington Post revealed Mr Obama's daughters, 10-year-old Malia and seven-year-old Sasha, have settled on a pup named Bo.
The Post published photos of the presidential puppy meeting Mr Obama's family. See the photos here.
The black-and-white puppy is a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy. Bo is scheduled to make his big debut to the American public early next week.
Mr Obama's daughters chose the name Bo because first lady Michelle Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley, the newspaper reported.
White House aides told The Associated Press that the office of the first lady arranged an exclusive deal on the dog story with the Post.

Together we learn to read and write
Hmmmmmnnn. Still don’t have Treasury staffed after three months, but they have “spontaneous artwork” and storylines for a propaganda piece in hours.
Not a Hollywood production at all. Just don’t look behind the facade and all will be well.
Hmmm....how long has he had the dog and the book comes out next WEEK? Drawings done, etc.? Oh please, this wasn’t a “quick decision” - this creep NEVER intended to get a shelter dog.
He’s more and more looking like the presents “BO” is going to leave on the White House carpets.
TeleBarker, maybe...
Bo doesn’t have to learn about anything. He is Bo the One Dog of the One. He has superpowers...like reading a teleprompter.
And just in time for Christmas...My Little Bo. You can feed him. Remember that he likes arugula and Missouri pizza. You can pretend to play with him in the corridors of the White House, or chase him around the oval office. Bo loves water, so he’ll be a hit at the pool.
