Saint Joan of Arc was one greatest freedom fighters to ever live. The anniversary of her beatification is a chance the remember her significant accomplishments and contributions to the world. This April is the 100th anniversary and in 1909 it was big news and there were huge celebrations around the world to honor her. In order to remember this anniversary MaidOfHeaven.com has set up a special page at http://www.maidofheaven.com/joanofarc_beatification.asp that contains a picture of the ceremony, a translation of the official pronouncement of beatification and a copy of a newspaper article from April 19, 1909 describing the ceremony.

Mark Twain’s book is the definitive popular history of the Great Saint.
Yes, that Mark Twain, the sometimes agnostic one.
If Joan of Arc’s remarkable, meticulously documented and verified history, does not convince one of the existence of miracles, and divine intervention, nothing ever will.

I was just watching this movie last night as I had not seen it in a while. The history deviates quite a bit from the truth but the perfomance of the actress who plays Joan saves it for me as she does a great job. Another good movie about Joan of Arc is the 1948 classic with Ingrid Bergman. The history in it is very good.

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for posting them. You know about the parade in New Orleans on Jan 6 that ends at this statue? It is going to be an annual event from now on. More about the parade at: http://www.stjoankrewe.blogspot.com/
