"The government now thinks it is its duty to make the citizens happy rather than preserve our liberties so that we can pursue happiness on our own ... And it goes about accomplishing its errant pursuit by plundering those that through their labors have been successful by means of excessive taxation and redistributing wealth to those who have achieved less success."

US moving toward embracing socialism?

Yeah, I’m embracing socialism like I’d embrace a red-hot poker.

redistribution of wealth is virtually impossible with the fair tax. That is why polititicans won’t do it, so we the people need to !

There’s nothing wrong with the mans observation. It’s a variant of the “boiled frog” thesis. Due largely to the unrelenting efforts of media luminaries and educators there is in fact a huge portion of our country’s population that has a positive attitude towards socialism. They are accomplishing exactly what Kruschev said they would.

If you recall, Hillary Rodham Clinton quoted,”We are going to take your money for the benefit of the common good”. That means by taxws, pilfering bank accounts, IRAs, inheritance tax, and whatever tax they can find. The common good is redistribution of wealth....welfare to those that refuses to work, and other social programs’

redistribution of wealth is virtually impossible with the fair tax.

Not exactly. There are two aspects to redistribution: the taking of wealth by the government and the spending of the booty by government. The fair tax would make the taking less "redistributive" but the spending on social programs could still remain substantially the same.

Whatever you do to change the method of allaying & collecting federal taxes, much of the economy, including the culture of the “poor”, is built around the redistributive programs that exist. Those will be very difficult to dismantle but in my view it must be done.

I still say the thing that would make it almost take care of itself would be to make taxes more visible. First would be a mandate on businesses (yeah I know) to list the effect of taxes as a dollar amount on all sales tickets - not only sales taxes but also a good faith computation of that transaction's contribution to the business's overall tax bill. Second would be elimination of withholdings, so everyone has to send in a monthly or quarterly check.

If the Present Occupant wants a transparent administration he ought to embrace these ideas.

He doesn’t want transparency, but you already know that. He wants absolute power and that comes by controlling the purse strings even more than now. He loves to use that word transparency though, doesn’t he? Yet he puts more and more whitewash on the glass every day it seems.

I really do fear for this country like never before. It is a shame so many want so much for no effort.
