Thousands protest taxes, Obama
By Dan Smith Apr. 15, 2009
In what the California Highway Patrol said was a large but peaceful crowd, more than 5,000 people came to the state Capitol today to protest higher taxes in California and the Obama administration's national policies.
Speakers, including Fox News' Neil Cavuto, talk radio personality Michael Reagan and U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Elk Grove, rallied the vocal crowd through and beyond the lunch hour. Many carried "No on 1A" signs, protesting the ballot measure on the May 19 special election that would create a state spending restrictions and extend state tax increases by $16 billion.
Billed as a "tea party," the rally was one of hundreds across the nation today, the day income tax returns and payments are due.
In California, anti-tax sentiments are running especially high this year after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers made a state budget deal in February that included temporary increases to sales, income and vehicle taxes. The ballot measure would extend the taxes from 2011 to 2013.

The hell you say. No broken windows? No overturned cars? No burning tires? No rock throwing?
What kind of protestors were these? Amateurs.
I posted about 50 *great* pictures from the event on this thread:

How many people do you think were there? It seems to me that “more than 5,000” might be an attempt to underestimate the size. Fresno’s crowd was estimated at 7,500+.
I honestly don’t know. I only posted the pics, I didn’t take them (I wasn’t there—I’m in Los Angeles).
I heard Cavuto say “more than 5000” early in the broadcast and I thought I heard them say later is was much more than that but I can’t find any reporting of the estimated attendance.
