Gov. David A. Paterson plans to introduce legislation on Thursday to make marriage between same-sex couples legal in New York, advancing his push for greater rights for gay men and lesbians, at a time when other states have done so.
Mr. Paterson’s plans represent the most public effort yet by the governor, who has been a consistent supporter of gay rights, to position himself and New York at the crest of a broadening national movement.
The move allows him to lead on an issue that could prove defining in his governorship, which has so far been marked by political missteps and the crumbling economy.
But it is also something of a political gamble, because the legislation faces an uphill climb in the State Senate. Democrats acknowledge that they do not have enough votes there to get the measure approved, meaning that its chances could rest in the hands of a few Republicans.
The governor also risks alienating socially conservative voters at a time when he can least afford to drive away any more support.
Nevertheless, he has said he is committed to putting the measure to a vote in Albany sooner rather than later.

I’m very surprised he had enough time to even think about such an important issue while he drives a stake into the heart of the state economy with his never ending tax increases. This state has become a sclerotic basket case in both a financial and cultural sense. It’s time to shut off the lights and depart for greener pastures.
I am simply at the point of hating these bastard politicians who work AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

and when this ALL fails them they then use judicial and other forms of Tyranny.

You're right that your state-recognized marriage is gay.
Your state-recognized marriage is not permanent - it can be ended by either party by notification, without recourse - and it is not exclusive, in that there is no legal penalty for adultery. The only semblance to what is called "traditional marriage" that remains in your state-sponsored marriage is the sex of the parties.
While I do not and will not recognize the relationship between two men and two women who are pretending to be married as a marriage, the traditional marriage horse left the barn 40 years ago.
Traditional marriage is illegal in all 50 states now, and the state-sponsored fiction of marriage between two men and two women is the last, but logical and inevitable, chapter in the end of real marriage that began 40 or more years ago.
No such marriage is permitted anywhere in the United States. Even two Catholics freely exercising their religion are forbidden from contracting (in law) such a marriage.
To shrink the definition of "traditional marriage" down to cohabitation at will with nonexclusive exchange of sexual services (which is now the law in all 50 states), while maintaining the opposite-sexual part of old marriage, will not prove tenable.
The sex of the participants is not the most important part of traditional marriage - exclusivity and permanency are much more important.
Since neither exclusivity nor permanency has any substantial public support, it is very unlikely that the opposite-sex component of traditional marriage will survive much longer.
This should make it clear that America is not a Christian nation, along with a number of other things, too...
I would say, that the election of Obama is all the proof that we need to say that God is judging America (for definitely *not* being a Christian nation), by the election of Obama...

You are not listening to the People. The governed have spoken about consent on the issue of Gay Marriage.
I resent the fact you think its okay to simply shove aside all referendums, polls, votes and laws enacted all over our country with NYer’s feeling the same way and yet you simply legislate AGAINST us.
Stop this. You are showing you do not care.
Gays already have EVERY right they are asking for. By legal instrument they have access to EVERYTHING in marriage...they want the institution to legitimize their lifestyle choice.
Obey the people Governor...its wrong of you to shove us aside. The only reason you are doing this is because you know it would not pass a vote by the people.

My only thoughts on that is that all government is under God’s authority and since God set marriage up under His authority (both per what the Bible says), then this means that the state needs to operate under those same guidelines that He set up.
Thus, there’s no conflict — except — when the state decides to operate outside of God’s guidelines.

And as for the thought that marriage was before “religion” (and as most people think of “religion” having to do with “God”) — I’ll have to say that since our Creator God has been the eternally pre-existent being without antecedent cause, and since He set up marriage, that means “religion” pre-dates marriage.
Furthermore, as I said above, since government is under authority of God, it’s incumbent upon government to follow God’s guidelines.
That’s good, too, for the definition of marriage...
The Romans quote speaks to homosexuality being (in and of itself) a “judgement” of God upon people, individually, for rejecting God...
Therefore, the “choice factor” is really not in terms of homosexuality or not — but rather “God or not”...
It’s not like there are other more important issues going on in the world. /s
