(AP) — ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin acknowledged Tuesday that global warming was harming her state but said stepped-up natural-gas production could mitigate its effects.
Speaking at a hearing before Interior Secretary Ken Salazar -- the third of several he is holding to consider renewed oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf -- Palin said that relatively clean-burning natural gas could supplant dirtier fuels and slow the discharge of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
"We Alaskans are living with the changes that you are observing in Washington," she said. "The dramatic decreases in the extent of summer sea ice, increased coastal erosion, melting of permafrost, decrease in alpine glaciers and overall ecosystem changes are very real to us."

A pleasant-enough woman, one who would make a fine PTA chairman, but definitely not presidential material.
She does not care about whether or how much man contributes and said clearly that it’s just as likely due to cyclical changes etc.
Her point is that regardless of what you believe on this issue that oil and gas energy should be focused on, not "green energy".
She expressedly said that oil and gas energy should be increased, regardless of enviromental concerns.
Please... which "green enviromentalist" is for increased oil and gas energy? She is 180° on the other side of them.

Well, “global warming” has not been disproved. In fact, I would say that “global warming” is a pretty well-established scientific fact. So, Sarah Palin is correct..., God bless her...
And so is global cooling a pretty well-established scientific fact.
What is *not* an established scientific fact and is, in fact, scientifically proven to be *wrong* — is — “Anthropogenic Global Warming”...
*Very obligatory* AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming) post..., and yes..., we can make the quips, cracks, snide remarks, obvious statements, statements of protest, of common sense and so on — but — they’ll never convince anyone else..., like our neighbors and friends and relatives.

The first is caused chiefly by sun activity, cyclical changes and other factors, while the latter is about "man causing it". There is no doubt that there are warming trends (and cooling phases) throughout earth's history.
Many Conservatives who are quoted as anti-Global Warming voices expressedly are skeptical of "man made Global Warming", not "Global Warming" per se.
Governor Palin repeatedly has said that she is skeptical of man's role in it and that it is not a determing concern for her energy policies.
Those saying there are NO climate changes are wrong.
There are changes, but there is no conclusive proof that it is caused by man.
I would advise all FReepers use the following when starting out in any conversation with others about this...
“I don’t believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming, although I do believe in Global Warming...”
And I would use the word “anthropogenic” in saying that, because it will get people (most of the time) to ask you what that is...
Then, I would *start out* by saying that it’s a proven scientific fact that there is global warming, but also there is global cooling. And then I would go into the AGW... :-)
And, definitely, don’t forget to have that documentary with you, too... LOL..

She is a skeptic and is not convinced of man's role in it, which is consistent with most Conservative skeptics and scientists opposed to the "Al Gore version".
I have no doubt in my mind that Governor Palin is at least a “sceptical environmentalist”, and we must read between the lines on anything she says on this subject. Given that she has to deal with a Federal regime that into this crasy stuff, her response is both clever and pragmatic. It’s saying that “whichever theory is correct, this is the way to go”. And we need to remember that Alasaks was the first state to set up a cabinet su-committe on this subject and to dformulate a sophisticated programme for renewable and hybris energy. Think about it. Palin has been politically very shrewd.
I have generally found that any report about Governor Palin, published by Associated Press needs to be extensively doubled checked for accuracy and distortion. My experiences is that they are to be absolutely distrusted.

And she is absolutely correct. This has been going on, more or less, since 10,000 b.c. Remember that back then glaciers covered Chicago and more.

If climate change is not caused by man but caused by cyclical changes, why on earth would we cap greenhouse gases? If climate change is not caused by man, why implement a cap-and-trade program and damage the U.S. economy while subjecting ourselves to otherwise unnecessary international government and international taxation? If climate change is not caused by man, why would we throw trillions of dollars at an 'all of the above' approach, tapping into alternative sources of energy and conserving fuel, conserving our petroleum products and our hydrocarbons so that we can clean up this planet and deal with climate change" instead of establishing an energy policy based on sound critera such as cost that will not strangle our economy?

IFILL: Governor, I'm happy to talk to you in this next section about energy issues. Let's talk about climate change. What is true and what is false about what we have heard, read, discussed, debated about the causes of climate change?PALIN: Yes. Well, as the nation's only Arctic state and being the governor of that state, Alaska feels and sees impacts of climate change more so than any other state. And we know that it's real.
I'm not one to attribute every man -- activity of man to the changes in the climate. There is something to be said also for man's activities, but also for the cyclical temperature changes on our planet.
But there are real changes going on in our climate. And I don't want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts?
We have got to clean up this planet. We have got to encourage other nations also to come along with us with the impacts of climate change, what we can do about that.
As governor, I was the first governor to form a climate change sub-cabinet to start dealing with the impacts. We've got to reduce emissions. John McCain is right there with an "all of the above" approach to deal with climate change impacts.
We've got to become energy independent for that reason. Also as we rely more and more on other countries that don't care as much about the climate as we do, we're allowing them to produce and to emit and even pollute more than America would ever stand for.
So even in dealing with climate change, it's all the more reason that we have an "all of the above" approach, tapping into alternative sources of energy and conserving fuel, conserving our petroleum products and our hydrocarbons so that we can clean up this planet and deal with climate change.
IFILL: Senator, what is true and what is false about the causes?

IFILL: Let me clear something up, Sen. McCain has said he supports caps on carbon emissions. Sen. Obama has said he supports clean coal technology, which I don't believe you've always supported.
BIDEN: I have always supported it. That's a fact.
IFILL: Well, clear it up for us, both of you, and start with Gov. Palin.
PALIN: Yes, Sen. McCain does support this. The chant is "drill, baby, drill." And that's what we hear all across this country in our rallies because people are so hungry for those domestic sources of energy to be tapped into.
They know that even in my own energy-producing state we have billions of barrels of oil and hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of clean, green natural gas. And we're building a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline which is North America's largest and most you expensive infrastructure project ever to flow those sources of energy into hungry markets.
Barack Obama and Sen. Biden, you've said no to everything in trying to find a domestic solution to the energy crisis that we're in. You even called drilling -- safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore as raping the outer continental shelf.
There -- with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that. But also in that "all of the above" approach that Sen. McCain supports, the alternative fuels will be tapped into: the nuclear, the clean coal.
I was surprised to hear you mention that because you had said that there isn't anything -- such a thing as clean coal. And I think you said it in a rope line, too, at one of your rallies.
IFILL: We do need to keep within our two minutes. But I just wanted to ask you, do you support capping carbon emissions?
PALIN: I do. I do.
