Global Warming Is 'Very Real for Us,' Palin Says
Associated Press ^ | April 14, 2009 | Kim Murphy

(AP) — ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin acknowledged Tuesday that global warming was harming her state but said stepped-up natural-gas production could mitigate its effects.

Speaking at a hearing before Interior Secretary Ken Salazar -- the third of several he is holding to consider renewed oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf -- Palin said that relatively clean-burning natural gas could supplant dirtier fuels and slow the discharge of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

"We Alaskans are living with the changes that you are observing in Washington," she said. "The dramatic decreases in the extent of summer sea ice, increased coastal erosion, melting of permafrost, decrease in alpine glaciers and overall ecosystem changes are very real to us."

After reading the first comments on this thread, all I can say is, “with friends like you, who needs enemies”. People who are now changing their minds about Governor Palin are doing so because they read something in the AP or LA Times, etc. Forget about going to the source and finding out the truth behind those headlines and minced words.

Disgusted in Alaska with idiots.

Well I wasn’t expecting perfection in any candidate. Guess what. Sarah isn’t perfect, especially on this issue. When she starts touting Kyoto, massive changes to American corporations, etc., THEN I’ll be worried.

I and others are not going to let these loons and trolls think they can continue with this crap against Gov. Palin.

Each time they try, we will come back with the truth and facts.

I only support candidates who have a set of values, don’t flip on the issues every other week

If there's someone who DOESN'T flip every other week, it's Palin.

In my previous comment to you, I was talking about the direct quote containing the "mitigation" you were referencing. That one was from the AP, not Palin herself.

"Simply waiting for low-carbon-emitting renewable capacity to be large enough will mean that it will be too late to meet the mitigation goals for reducing [carbon dioxide] that will be required under most credible climate-change models," she warned.

She has outed herself.

I understand you are the messenger. (hold it, wolf spider running rampant). She isn’t buying any control from DC.

There is some people here who don’t want her to run and want to turn supporters against her. We all need to learn to hold fire on every candidate and look for the truth vs AP spin... too much jumping the shark going on and in some cases the same person that stirred everyone during the primaries is starting the emotional anti-Palin threads, too.

go to the link below click on the logo to make certain you have most recent date and then and scan down to the article with citations to the facts and not the AP version of the facts

Did that and don't see anything directly addressing this particular speech. If you are connected to that site, then it would behoove you to have them directly address that statements apparently made as reported to the AP and correct anything that was misreported, as this isn't the only site where the story has had legs. No doubt there is some video or audio of the conference that would clear it up for all involved. I hope you are right.

I have only one thing to say to your comments, Stunned, and that is “BULL”. I’m an Alaskan Conservative too and I am surrounded by other Alaskan Conservatives. And each of them would say the same thing as I to what you have posted. BULL.

Have a nice Alaskan evening.

From her interview with Charlie Gibson during the election:

Gibson: "Do you still believe that global warming is not manmade?"

Palin: "I believe that man's activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change. [...] John McCain and I agree that we got to do something about it, and we have to make sure that we're doing all we can to cut down on pollution."

Nuff said.

She has outed herself.

Nonsense. She has only said the plans in place for carbon reduction DON'T meet the goals the enviro's themselves have set.

Why are you insisting on believing what the AP is cherry-picking?

Still don't believe they hate her and are just reporting in an unbiased fashion? Sheesh.

I have zero connection to that site but I read it regularly to find out what she is really doing vs what the press is reporting, they have managed this week alone to get McClatchy to change a misleading headline... this story is down about four stories from today on their site. I always click on the header to get to the most recent date.

As I mentioned to Ariz. Carolyn... it would be in the interest of Sarah’s PAC to clear it up rather than for anyone here to assume the AP is right or wrong. I’ll await the video or the PAC’s response. As it is reported, the quotes are problematic for me... and her, if true.
