Pirates attacks an American-flagged commercial vessel Tuesday in an unsuccessful new hijacking attempt off of the coast of Somalia.
At about noon EDT, the Liberty Sun, with a crew of about 20 U.S. citizens, reported to the Coast Guard that they were being attacked by pirates. The U.S. Navy dispatched the USS Bainbridge in response, a Department of Defense official told FOX News.
The official confirmed it was a failed piracy attempt, and by the time the warship arrived several hours later, the pirates were gone.
The Navy was unable to track the pirate ship, but may have had them on radar for a short time.

Shoot the effing pirates when they tool up. Dammit.
Okay, has the Navy ever heard of Helos or UAVs? I’m just wondering....
Time to break out the AGM-84’s! (Or their equivalent.)
Honestly, this is such an effin joke. /Tedious
I find myself wondering if the reason they broke their assault off, was they found out that the USS Bainbridge
was only two hours away, and heading toward them at flank speed?
The most powerful navy in the history of water...rendered impotent by the fantastically complicated tactics of two-stroke bound hillbillies. /Tedious
I wonder why it was a failed attemt.
Hughes MD-500 choppers mounted with miniguns based on all U.S. flagged ships passing thru the Red Sea and down the east coast of Africa . It’s the perfect contract for Blackwater .
International waters = free fire zone for suspected pirate ships that fail to respond to hailing
sounds like these folks want a war...
Oh please God, grant them their wish...
A likely reason was the Pirates couldn’t keep up with the ship. One of the main tactics against the pirates is just to outrun them. The small boats can;t go as fast, or keep up for very long. They (the pirates) have to intecept, to attack, not come up from behind. Like subs in WWII. The attack windot is small and short(timewise). At least that is my understanding of the situation.
Sink the mother ships , do not rescue any survivors
You got that right!!!
Hunt down the Mother Ship and blow it away.

Or an aircraft carrier. The F-14 could take off, travel to the target, dispose of it forever and be back on deck in less than an hour.
The F-14 is no more.
OK here’s a stretch...change the shipping routes
No, nuke Somalia. Get rid of wasp nest.
Yep...we were thinking the same thing, and with today’s extraordinarily talented MSM journalists (/sarc) ...you’d think they would have reported on that, don’t yah?
