STOCKTON, Calif. -- A Tracy woman accused of killing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu wept Tuesday during her first court appearance.
Melissa Huckaby, 28, was led into a Stockton courtroom in a red jumpsuit and shackles for the afternoon arraignment.
She continued to cry as Judge Richard Vlavianos read the charges: one count of murder with the special circumstances of rape with a foreign object, lewd or lascivious conduct with a child under 14 and murder in the course of a kidnapping.
Huckaby did not enter a plea. A public defender was assigned to her. She will next appear in court on April 24 for further arraignment.
The special circumstances in a complaint filed Tuesday make Huckaby eligible for the death penalty if prosecutors choose to pursue that option.

A few years ago I saw a statistic that said over 70% of children who were raped and murdered were killed by a person of the same sex. I bet you will not see any press coverage with the words gay, homosexual, or lesbian involving this case.
I would like ‘justice’ to truly be blind in this case.
If it were a man who did exactly the same thing, is there any question as to the outcome of the case?
Sick, Lesbian pervert. Give her the death penalty.
I agree, but I’m sure the liberal press will have a different agenda.
perhaps pass her around the mens jail for a few days before the execution
Oh no, you see, when women do this, it is due to abuse they themselves suffered. So wait to see the women’s groups come to her defense. Watch them blame the abuse this women suffered on her grandfather, who was the pastor of the church or something. Then they can channel all their anger at the christian church, rather than hold a murderer accountable for her crime.
Death Penalty is warranted in this one. What a horrible horrible case. That child could have lived to be 100 years old. Evil walks the Earth with us. Watch out.
I have no use for most women’s groups, but I think they won’t touch this one. She’s way too unsympathetic and she wasn’t this girl’s own mother, so they can’t use the it’s-so-tough-being-a-mother nonsense. I think this chick is on her own.
I sure hope you are right. This is a heinous act.
I agree.
I agree 100% to that. What a scummer this woman is.
How about the WOMEN’S prison, rather than the men’s. then they can get creative about raping her like she did with this little girl.
Sadly, I am afraid you are correct. SHE will be the victim after all of this is over. I hope Mark Klaas and John Walsh get involved in this and go after her with everything they can.
And they’ll probably blame Christianity, Jesus, the Bible and her father, because he is a pastor.
Yes, the far-left and women’s libbers are probably working on her defense as we speak. Her oppressive father and grandfather, Christianity stifled her, blah, blah blah.
Hang her.

“Tracy Murder Suspect Weeps In Court”
Weep in court? Burn in Hell.
A FATHER whose "forceful kick" left his toddler with severe internal injuries, including a lacerated liver, has been spared jail.
The District Court today found Troy Levi Galffy lashed out at his three-year-old son, lacerating the boy's liver, due to "unexpected and subliminal forces" arising from his own childhood.
.... Judge Sydney Tilmouth said ... "The circumstances suggest you unjustifiably overreacted to a very minor situation... however, below the surface there were quite unusual dynamics at work," he said.
"You suffered childhood abuse yourself (and it) was brought to the surface on this occasion, producing intense anger and overcoming normal cognitive processes.
"But for these considerations, your actions would be wholly inexplicable and otherwise expose a potentially unacceptable risk of harm in the future."
Apparently what the boy did, to provoke this assault, was that he went to the front door, curious to see who was knocking on it.
God Almighty.
