Surely, a man like yourself -- a reverend -- who famously preaches from the church pulpit ..I could be wrong but I don't think 'Rev Al' ever had a church or a pulpit to preach from. IIRC he's always been a 'community organizer'. Annnnnnd I believe 'reverend' Al became a 'reverend' the same way me and my buddy Dennis did in 1973.
We sent in $20.00 to a place (church) in Tennessee and got our ordination papers as 'Reverends' about a week later. For another $20.00 we could have become Bishops.
