“Jentsch, according to Vlasak, “is hurting and killing nonhuman primates every day. And if it took harming him to make him stop torturing, it is certainly morally justifiable.”

These people are certifiably insane

I really hate medical research being done on animals. I really, really don't like it. HOWEVER, anyone who has a loved one suffering would gladly accept medicine and/or treatment that was created as a result of this kind of research.

As much as I love animals, my children are more important. I guarantee any of these militant "hurt the researcher" types would change their tune if they needed a medicine or cure found in this manner.

While I certainly don’t condone this sort of violence, all of us who do not, would do well to be more vocal in our opposition to the use of sentient animals in research that benefits only self-destructive humans (not to mention all the worthless research that benefits only the academic careers of scientists with dubious qualifications).

Much of Jentsch’s published research is about the effects of street drugs such as cocaine and PCP (phencyclidine) on these poor monkeys. There’s a huge supply of humans who have freely chosen to damage their brains with this garbage, and if there’s any worthwhile research to be done on the topic, THEY should be the study subjects. Leave the innocent monkeys alone.

It would be a lot harder for extremist/violent animal rights groups to recruit activists, if there wasn’t so much animal research going on that really *is* morally reprehensible.

Impairments of reversal learning and response perseveration after repeated, intermittent cocaine administrations to monkeys

Clozapine normalizes prefrontal cortex dopamine transmission in monkeys subchronically exposed to phencyclidine (this one claims that inducing some schizophrenia-like symptoms in monkeys by giving them PCP somehow creates a useful model for studying a drug that might help humans with schizophrenia — never mind that this is not how schizophrenia arises in humans who do not take PCP)
