FOX News reports that there were 22 men aboard the Greek carrier.

If the shipping companies are too stupid to have armed guards protect their ships, then let ‘em get hijacked.

Time to WIPE OUT the pirate bases!

“Undeterred?” The only thing that will “deter” lawless Somali pirates is a Navy sharpshooter.

Why is it that mercantile ships are not allowed to be armed?
I don’t mean “where can I find the law”, I mean “why”.

Clearly a critical mass of dead pirates has not yet been amassed.
Pile ‘em up.

You either pay them off or exterminate them.
......I vote for extermination, level the coast line and any where else they are.

So, did Obama just make more pirates by killing those pirates?
Isn’t that the mantra on the left about terrorists?

All of this will change when the insurance companies realize the risk of arms on board is less costly than losing ship after ship. Lloyd’s drew the same conclusion in the early 18th century. Ah, a lesson lost to time...

The number for Xe (formerly Blackwater) maritime solutions is 252-435-2488 ... some of these shippers might want to give them a call.
LOL.

"Why is it that mercantile ships are not allowed to be armed?"I read it's because some countries like England and Canada won't allow them to dock if they have guns aboard.

From what I understood, a lot of ports don’t allow armed foreigners to dock. I can kind of see where that makes sense.
To: Laissez-faire capitalist
I don’t think that anyone has accused the Somali pirates of being terribly bright...

The punishment for piracy in the past was hanging. Still sounds like a good idea.
I notice that the “pirates” are teenagers, and the clan leaders are old guys. If enough teenage boys are wiped out and the Somali’s lose a generation of their young, will it stop piracy? I don’t think so.

"Why is it that mercantile ships are not allowed to be armed?"It seems to me like someone could put two ships in the ocean, one on each side of Somalia and rent weapons and ammunition to the vessels. That way they would be armed as they transited the Somalian coast, but would be unarmed when they reached their destination port.
