Rather than try to catch the perp, registration means that fedgov (or your insurance carrier) can impose a “strict liability” law (or policy rider) that means that if a gun registered to you is used in a crime, you are liable for damages and possible criminal liability (since YOU let the criminal get access to the gun through your negligence- a measly 4” thick concrete-steel safe with biometric crypto locks).

Plus, homeowner insurance companies can be pressured by fedgov or their underwriters (AIG) to drop coverage of registrants, or impose huge liability contingency fees.

So with registration comes perhaps a $2000 annual fee to keep your S&W 41 target gun.

Best way to illuminate the issue for now is to ask the proponents just how registration reduces crime, and keep drilling down until specifics emerge, or the blank-stare ignorance you get from hoplophobes.

I can think of and imagine a far simpler solution.

How is this going to work? The Dims will probably require everyone have $1 million of liability insurance for each gun owned as well as for the FOID card that all gun owners will be required to have to register their guns (Ones that are NOT “Assault Weapons”)...
