That’s okay. The Seals have plenty of ammo.

The head of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command is warning that the successful rescue of an American captain held by Somali pirates could escalate violence in that part of the world. So it's also an "escalation of violence" if a mugging victim fights back? Riiiiiiiight.

I think it would be worse if the pirates had gotten away with it. If the Navy had blown the pirates out of the water to start with (when the captain first jumped over in a bid for freedom), the risk would be less. Now, the pirates are gonna take notes on what went wrong and are now adjust their tactics.

Or it could cause global warming or it could cause sparrows to fly faster or...

That’s ok. 5th Fleet can deal with violence.

I think that is a possibility but it is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact I think it would be a good thing completely except the media will spin and losses as a disaster.

Uh, violence already occurred. Look for bodies of 3 dead pirates.

As one of my former Posc professors said, “you raise the level of punishment until they are no longer willing to pay the price for their actions.” Then they will stop.

As long as it’s violence against the pirates, I’m not seeing the downside here.

Maybe these pirates are moderates who would only get 36 virgins in paradise, or just slit a throat now and then instead of doing head-lopping, you know, the kind of moderates Barry would meet with no preconditions.

Right, it “could” do a lot of things, like it could stop the damn fools from engaging in high seas piracy.
To: MuttTheHoople
You betcha.
If were the pirates, I would kill half the crew immediately, when I take the next boat.
THEN start negotiating.
Your move, Mr President..

It’s more likely to make the butt pirates of the Indian Ocean think twice before trying to take on a U.S. merchant vessel.

As long as the merchant ships are not armed, why not keep attacking?
We shall see. Then there is the untidy matter of the other american boat and 10 Italians and 270 other hostages...
