I figure Seals scuba’d up to the lifeboat, tossed in a flash-bag, and while the pirates were stunned the Captain hopped to the rear hatch and jumped in the water. But who knows, it might have been as simple as having men with night-vision on the destroyer eyeballing the raft and opening up with .50 fire when they saw the captain make his escape this time around.

Easy. It is a Beeber like device, susceptible to stuning. Everyone knows that.

Hooray! Good riddance to the dead pirates. They won’t be terrorizing anymore ships, that’s for sure.

We want him to take the defense of Americans seriously. On this, we absolutely want him to succeed. My thoughts exactly.

As much as I would like to know every detail of the operation, I pray they don’t tell us anything but, “We rescued the captain and some pirates died in the process. That is all we have to say.”
It is so fun to reveal how we do cool things, but it just makes the enemy wiser for the next attempt.
Also, I don’t think obie will attack their bases since this is a “legal” situation, not “military.” At least that’s what he wants to say.

This is what needs to happen to all pirates:
060318-N-8623S-003 Indian Ocean (March 18, 2006) - A suspected pirate vessel ignites in flames before burning to the waterline. USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) and USS Cape St. George (CG 71) were conducting maritime security operations in international waters off the coast of Somalia and attempted to perform a routine boarding of the suspicious vessel towing two skiffs. The suspected pirates opened fire on the U.S. Navy ships and the ship's crew members returned fire.

Now does Obama order this Pirate held without a lawyer?
Does he order “harsh interrogations”?
Was his rights read to him?
Is this pirate allowed bail being he didn't actually kill anyone?
Will he be sent to a country that is known to torture?
Is this pirate allowed Habeus Corpus?
Obama better have all this figured out being he was one so critical of President Bush's policies.

"Obama didnt do anything."
Give him time to take credit for the entire operation crises from start to finish.

Reminds me onf another captian who set down a plane in the Potomac. You're right, it does! There are still Americans walking amongst us who are made of some very stern stuff. I'm so happy about this today, I can barely contain myself.

44. The pirates are fighting for their lives! It's the multi-nationals that have a death wish!
This is supposed to be a site for progressives, but when certain issues arise, like Somali pirates. Almost everyone on this forum becomes John Wayne, or the current version of a right-wing racist cowboy.
If the warships in the area would stop the illegal fishing and dumping of toxic wastes of the coast of Somalia, the piracy would stop as well. Stop blaming the victims of neo-liberal economics and neo-conservative politics. And lighten up on the racism.

I'd bet the Captain knew the seals were in the vicinity, or even recognized a "signal" of sorts from the ship saying so. (Morse Code?)
I'd assume the seals were in the water alongside the boat and signaled him from there. Probably by yelling "Jump!"
Yup! Once Phillips hit the water, 4 'skinnys' were toasted. So one gets lucky and survives.
Now will Ozero say he authorized the mission??

Do not compare the Iran hostage crisis to this in term of magnitude and difficulty. There is a big difference to rescue hostages held hundreds of miles inside an enemy nation with hundreds of thousands of armed troops versus a single hostage held by 4 ragtag pirates on a tiny boat in the middle of the ocean surrounded by our US Navy the mightiest Navy in history of man.
Our enemies know the difference and they know that we are weak today very weak and all this because of Obama.
This action has thousands of sphincters puckering in ports along the Somali coast.
You are still focusing on the pirates and I am talking about Al Qaeda, The Taliban, Iran, North Korea, etc...
