Given our current president, my guess is the Captain grabbed a gun. He certainly proved repeated times that he wasn't afraid of them. If true, his brave acts will save timid folks a lot money, blood, toil, and sweat for perhaps a few years. Now that would take the wind out of the sails of Bozo if he tried to take credit, and if the captain did grab a gun and kill three he probably pi**ed off Bozo to no end!

It was mentioned that the 4th pirate was on the navy ship negotiating.I'd really like to see the look on his face when they informed him that the other pirates were dead and the captain was safe.
I hope they put a video of it on youtube.

The result was as close to perfection as anyone could have wished for. I don’t understand how anyone can say this took “too long”.

I am surprised that some FReepers are not seeing the big picture here and they are just focused on 4 ragtag pirates trapped in a tiny boat in the middle of the Indian Ocean surrounded by the mightiest Navy in history and yet it took 5 days to resolve this problem rather than being solved in the first few hours of the hostage taking and all this because Obama the defeatist did not order any immediate action. I've got to disagree with you here. This has all the hallmarks of Special Forces - and they probably developed a tactical plan, did live exercises, had to transit to the location, and then wait for late at night to catch the pirates mostly asleep. It looks like Obama gave the Pentagon leeway to conduct the op the way they wanted, and IMO that was a good thing.

Obama did nothing. All he wanted to do is yap away and it was The Navy that successfully rescued the Captain.

Wasn’t peeing, really. Congrats to the troops. Just ashamed that it took DumbO took six days to decide that they should be allowed to do their jobs...

LOL
MSNBC is reporting that ‘3 pirates died’.
[Yeah, they died of heart failure, compounded with a few grams of lead, as they came face-to-face with a team of SEALS.]

Fox just reported Captain Phillips may have done this - by jumping out of the boat again.
I've heard it said that Vermonters were a different breed. This guy Mr. Phillips is certainly proving that. Add to that the gun laws being friendly in VT, might be a place I'd like to visit one day.

It seems to me that it was Americans, start to finish, fighting for themselves that led to the Captain escaping and the pirates being killed, eventually, by the military. Captain Phillips first volunteered himself to the pirates to save his crew. Then, twice, he attempted to escape by jumping overboard. The second time was successful, probably because the Navy realized he might try it a second time and were prepared.
The fourth pirate was on the Bainbridge negotiating the ransom demands when Captain Phillips managed to escape.
It looks to me like the captain did what he had to do to stay alive.
