I think the pirates are being fed disinformation. The boat can’t move 165 miles in a day. At that speed, it would take 200 gallons of gasoline.

What kind of boat do you use?

The heaviest boat I drive uses about 15 gph at high cruising speed, but travels close to 40 miles in that time. If I'm going for distance, I drop my speed to 18 mph, and use only 4 gallons in the same time.

Now do the math: 24 hours at 18 mph is 432 miles, yet you think that 200 miles is unreasonable? Don't forget that lifeboats carry 100 gallons or so of fuel.

IOW, you're hurting your credibility with statements totally unbased in reality.

My mistake: I thought it was 100 gallons, it’s 24 hours worth of fuel at 6 knots.

The rest stands.

Around the time I was 10 and a fence was meant for people and not stray cows I joined up with some kids on the way to the school bus.

There lived by the road an old, incredibly old, man who made such a fuss over his trees that he stood watch in protection of his much treasured trove. With each passing day the game played out: a cherry here, a pear there — an apple from time to time all fell prey to we passers-by.

The closer we came the more exciting it became till one day we stopped and in curosity remained, the old man was not to be seen and behind the fence silence reigned; soon the bravest and most foolish among us began to climb the foreboding fence and reached as high as he might.

With a grunt and a sniggering snatch he held in the palm of his hand the most-prized apple atop the small groomed tree.

Just then this wizened and grey old lady followed her apron to where the boy now lay, mouth agape and quite frightened on the strangely cold summer’s clay.

“I’m so glad to see you,” she said, “My husband’s so sorry he missed you today, the Lord came last night and took him away.”

No word was spoken as all went along, each boy in his weakness, align with the path well worn — awaiting by turn where the weak meet the strong.

Obama ordered the Navy Seals not to rescue the captain and he also ordered the Navy to deliver water, food, batteries and fuel to his muslim brothers in the lifeboat.

And Sarko laughed.

Somali pirates obtained fuel for their hijacked lifeboat and were moving within 35 kilometres of Somalia's shore late Saturday with Phillips on board, ABC news and CNN reported.

500 kilometers is 310.6856 miles

Or 310 miles 3620.0 feet

"Obama had ordered the Navy to provide food, water and fuel to the lifeboat."

Do you remember the source of that information? Was it credible?

The boat they are in is 28’ long (I have one that is 27.5’ and has a 125 gallon fuel tank). A lifeboat would not have a planing hull, as it is designed for safety, not speed. To move a 28’ boat, which probably has a trawler hull, not designed for high speed, 165 miles in 12 hours (not 24, as you said) would take at LEAST 200 gallons.

It is obvious the Seals could have cut the propeller shaft. It is obvious they could have attached a line and anchored the lifeboat to something so that it could not move

I was thinking they could have quietly attached a padded cable around the prop shaft. I know that any outside sound is easily detected.

Still, they could have anchored the lifeboat in place. They had to expect that whatever caused the lifeboat engine to fail could be repaired. They had plenty of containers on board to rig up some type of fuel transfer ability.

The more this event wears on, the more it smacks of interference by politicians who are more worried about their public image or agenda, then with doing the right thing. The skipper, on the other hand, demonstrates the right thing at every turn. When his crew is threatened, he has a plan for them to lock themselves in a compartment. He has a plan to trade himself to gain the release of his ship and crew. He has a plan to attempt to escape. He is probably the one that sabotaged the lifeboat's fuel line or fuel system.

If we as a nation later learn that inexperience and incompetency by political hacks tied the hands of Naval personnel, then we only have ourselves to blame for the election.

......Hopefully a SEAL team attaches an anchor to the bottom of the boat,......

Or perhaps a tow line. The capsule could be towed to the base at Djibouti

......He is probably the one that sabotaged the lifeboat’s fuel line or fuel system.......

Therein lies the solution to the mystery. The capitan disrupted the fuel flow or disabled the engine.

The Pirates studied the problem and worked around it. There was no fuel provided from outside, it was there all along.

I bet nobody thought of airlifting in a boat that looks just like what the other pirates are using right down to the color and have SEALs dressed up as pirates with all the proper looking weapons and headscarves and motor up saying welcome the coast is clear, hand over the hostage.

Regarding the anchor attachment, “The floor of the Indian Ocean has an average depth of c.11000 ft (3400 m)”

The capsule could be towed

That would work, especially for the AG

You are under arrest. According to the constitution of the United States as interpreted by the Warren Court, - in Miranda v. Arizona

You have a right to remain silent.........blah, blah, blah

I still hold this is a military matter. Bringing domestic law enforcement into the equation continues to set a bad global precedent. All of these events happened on the open seas, outside the waters of any nation.

That lifeboat holds Four more reasons for a place like Gitmo!

Only thing that should be said by our side:

Captain released immediately.

Perps arrested.

If not:

Wait this out more.

After the hostage situation ends, elders/those that protect them/pirates will be targeted and killed (For all past actions as well)

Screw the international community's reaction, we are just expanding France's operation and engaging the root cause

Residents said they could see white soldiers on one of two helicopters which flew over for around half an hour in the area of Haradheere port on Somalia’s Indian Ocean coast.

They said they believed the helicopters came from nearby U.S. or other foreign warships. One helicopter briefly landed.

Resident Ahmed Haji Abdi said people were afraid of being bombed.

“We thought there would be air raids this morning. Haradheere is full of pirates,” he said. “They might be Americans. They have left now.”
